Spooky USA

We are now studying the NORTHEAST region of United States.

Here are some spooky stories, locations, and museums to check out....

Lake Champlain, New York & Vermont

The lake was named after French explorer Samuel de Champlain. Back in 1609 he claimed he saw a 20-foot-long snaky creature with a horselike head swimming in the lake!  The Champlain monster story gained popularity throughout the years. In 1977 a woman thought she saw the monster and said she got a shot of it with her camera. The picture revealed what looks to be a long-necked creature coming out of the water. Unfortunately the photo was lost. Interestingly enough, Lake Champlain is thought to be a perfect place for unusual animals to live because the lake is very large, cold, and deep -- 400 feet in some places!
