Classroom Behavior: Please refer to Parent/Student Handbook
Instructional Strategies/Assessment: Various methods will be used to meet 
different learning styles; Large & small group instruction, cooperative 
groups, oral/silent reading & activities, individual conferencing, creative 
writing, research writing, class work, homework, quizzes, tests.

Grading Policy: Tests/Large Writing Assignments- 50%
		Quizzes/Smaller Writing Assignments-35%
		Homework-15%
Any assignment with a grade lower than 70% must be signed by a parent and 
returned the next day.
Late Work and Make-up Work: Please refer to Parent/Student Handbook.  Since 
advance notice is given for tests, a student absent only the day before a 
test is expected to take the test with the class upon return.

Homework Policy: Grades 7 and 8 have a Zero Late Homework policy.  Please
refer to page 26 in the Student Handbook.

Communication: Emails or hand written notes are the best ways to reach me.  
Please allow adequate time for a response.   My email address is

Extra Help: My extra help schedule varies from week to week.  Most mornings 
at 8:15 work best.  Appointments must be made in advance.

Students should tell me they are coming by Monday.  Students should come 
to the extra help sessions with prepared questions.  A student may request 
a different time, most mornings at 8:15 work best.  Appointments must be 
made in advance.


  1. What does a grade of 1, 2, 3, or 4 mean?



What does a grade of 1, 2, 3, or 4 mean?

The 1-4 grading system is used in place of a check system.  It is 
used on small assignments such as homework, some type 2 writing
assignments, and short informal essays.

4 = 95%
*Shows lots of effort
*Followed all directions
*Only has 1 or 2 wrong (depending on the amount of questions)
*Strong support or detail

3 = 85%
*Shows effort
*May be missing a small part or has several incorrect answers

2 = 75%
*Shows little effort
*Didn't follow directions
*Incomplete or quite a few incorrect answers
*Lacks detail or support

1 = 65%
*Incomplete or many wrong answers
*Shows very little effort
