Grade 8

Texts: Writing and Grammar: Communication in Action (Handbook Edition – 
       Silver Level), Prentice Hall, 2004.
       Vocabulary Workshop (New Edition-Lev. C), Sadlier-Oxford, 2005.

Classroom Behavior: Please refer to Parent/Student Handbook

Instructional Strategies/Assessment: Various methods will be used to meet 
different learning styles; Large & small group instruction, cooperative 
groups, oral/silent reading & activities, individual conferencing, creative 
writing, research writing, class work, homework, quizzes, tests.

Grading Policy: Tests/Large writing assignments – 60%
                Quizzes/Smaller writing assignments -30%
                Homework – 10%
                           
Any assignment with a grade lower than 70% must be signed by a parent and 
returned the next day.                      

Late Work & Make-up Work: Please refer to Parent/Student Handbook.  Since 
advance notice is given for tests, a student absent only the day before a 
test is expected to take the test with the class upon return.

Homework Policy: Homework not submitted on the day it is due will be 
considered incomplete and must be submitted the next day.  A late grade will 
be given.  If the assignment is not submitted on the second day, the result 
will then be a 0.  Three zeros will result in a detention.

Communication:  Emails or hand written notes work best.  I will respond with 
either an email or a hand written note. You may email me at:

Extra Help:  My extra help schedule varies from week to week, however,  I am 
readily available most mornings before school.  Tuesdays and Wednesdays work 
best after school. I prefer to know ahead of time, therefore, appointments 
are necessary.

Instructional Strategies/Assessment:  Various methods will be used to meet 
different learning styles; large & small group instruction, cooperative 
learning/group work, discussions, oral & silent reading, video, computer, 
guest speakers, projects, research, field trips, essays, trivia, quizzes, 
tests.

Grading Policy: Tests/Projects/Research Reports – 60%
                Quizzes/Essays/Mini Reports – 30%
                Homework – 10%
