Texts: Writing and Grammar: Communication in Action (Handbook Edition – 
       Silver Level), Prentice Hall, 2004.
       Vocabulary Workshop (New Edition-Lev. C), Sadlier-Oxford, 2005.

Classroom Behavior: Please refer to Parent/Student Handbook

Instructional Strategies/Assessment: Various methods will be used to meet 
different learning styles; Large & small group instruction, Various forms of 
writing(ie. creative, composition, essay, research), individual conferencing, 
classwork, homework, quizzes, tests.

Grading Policy: Tests(Large writing assignments) – 60%
                Quizzes(Smaller writing assignments) -30%
                Homework – 10% (small assignments fall into this category)
Any assignment with a grade lower than 70% must be signed by a parent and 
returned the next day.                      

Make-up Work: Please refer to Student Handbook.  Since advance notice is 
given for tests, a student absent only the day before a test is expected to 
take the test with the class upon return.

Homework Policy: Grades 7 and 8 have a Zero Homework Policy.  Please refer to 
page 26 in the Student Handbook. *Please see my Social Studies Homework 
Policy for greater detail regarding assignments not passed in on time.

Communication:  Emails, phone calls, or hand written notes work best.  I will

Classroom Behavior: Please refer to Parent/Student Handbook.

Instructional Strategies/Assessment:  Various methods will be used to meet 
different learning styles; large & small group instruction, group work, 
discussions, oral & silent reading, video/computer/technology ie. power 
point, etc., guest speakers, projects, research, field trips, essays, trivia, 
quizzes,tests.

Grading Policy: Tests/Projects/Large Essays and/or Research Reports – 60%
                Quizzes/Small essays and/or reports – 30%
                Homework – 10% (small assignments fall into this category)
Any assignment lower than 70% must be signed by a parent and returned the 
next day.

Instructional Strategies/Assessment: Large/Small group instruction and 
activities, reflections and essays, classwork, discussions, homework, 
quizzes, tests, technology (ie. video, power point, etc.)

Grading Policy: Tests-60%
                Quizzes-30% (reflections, smaller writing assignments, etc.)
                Homework-10%
Any assignment lower than 70% must be signed by a parent and returned the 
next day.
