For those of you who do not know what the Academic Bowl is all about, here
is a brief summary...
The Academic Bowl began in 1987 as a means of promoting academic
excellence and fostering teamwork between neighboring communities. Each
school in the Academic Bowl is paired with another school to form one team.
Every year the pairing of schools changes. The teams participate in matches
from December through April. The matches take place during the school day,
which means students are responsible to make up any work missed. The
matches are filled with academic questions...lots of history, math, science,
grammar, literature, current events, etc. The students take part in a
buzzer round, which means they must be quick to answer and not be afraid to
speak up! There is also a hands-on round where students work together in
small groups to complete a multi-stepped challenging task. COOPERATION and
RESPONSIBLE students are a must! The team is comprised of 16 7th and 8th
grade students. Students must also be willing to put in some extra study
time in order to prepare for matches. Academic Bowl meets before school on
Tuesdays each week, as well as during some lunch periods when a match is
nearing.
