Announcements

WEEK OF NOVEMBER 16

What a wonderful day and field trip we had to the Mayflower.  The children were really excited and asked such good questions when we boarded the Mayflower.  We had talked and studied about the voyage and they were really interested in seeing first hand how the Pilgrims traveled in 1620.  Thank you so much to Cadence's grandfather and Holly's mom and dad for arranging the buses for us.  A special thank you to Tremblay Bus Company for providing us with two buses free of charge   Transportation is a major expense when we are going on a field trip and the generosity of Tremblay Bus Company is greatly appreciated.  They truly exhibit their interest in making educational trips available to us.  We owe them a round of applause for their commitment to helping us educate our children -  the children and teachers are grateful for their kindness.  Thank you to all the parents who chaperoned this trip.  I am grateful for your help and you all did a wonderful job with the children. We were especially happy to have our two Dads (Mr. Hamel and Mr. Alexander) chaperone with us.  It is not often that "daddys" are able to accompany us  - so this was a special time (I guess we moms taught you how to shop with 6 & 7 year olds!!).  Because of the short week, there will be no homework, spelling test or homework contract.  We will be attending Mass on Monday, working on a special project for our families, attending a prayer service and just relaxing before Thanksgiving break (can you believe we are into the holiday season?!!).  Please go to the homework page for information about Social Studies papers which will be in your child's folder each week. It was nice to speak to all parents at Parent/Teacher Conferences this week.  Together we can make this a successful year for your child.  I am thankful for such wonderful children this year.  I wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving with their family and friends.

WEEKS OF NOVEMBER 2 & 9

I am sorry that I did not write on the announcement page last week -- it was one of those really hectic times.  We had so many children  and teachers out sick that it was an exhausting week.  I am sure everyone has received their child's report card and I look forward to meeting with you at parent conferences which will be held on Monday, November16 and Wednesday, November 18.  On Friday I sent home a note to parents who had requested a conference letting them know the date and time.  If you did not send in a request for a conference and would like one there are still some times left on Wednesday night (sorry Monday is all filled up).  You can send me a note on Monday to schedule a Wednesday conference.  In Math we have started working on addition.  Please note that math homework which was sent home the week of November 9th had subtraction problems on it.  This was copied and sent home in error.  I apologize for the confusion and I appreciate the parents who helped their children with this skill.  They have not yet learned subtraction so please do not worry if they did not understand how to do the math - we will get to subtraction soon.  Please work with your child on addition facts 1-10 each night.  In reading we are finishing up our first book  TAKE A CLOSER LOOK and for the next two weeks (which are short weeks due to the field trip and Thanksgiving break) we will be reviewing all reading words, skills and phonics (short a,i,o). Please be sure your child is reading everynight and going over their sight words.  Also please try to do the activities on the Family Times page.  I am a little disappointed that many of the children have told me they have not worked on this page.  I am trying to give everyone all the necessary tools to make the children fluent readers.  This is a big job which we must do together in order for success.  Thanks for your help with this matter.  In Language Arts we are working on common nouns.  Don't forget about our field trip to the Mayflower on Tuesday.  I will post more information about that on the e-mail update page.
