May 25th
Thank you to our parents and grandparents who came with on the field trip yesterday! The children had a great day! If any parents have photos the field trip they would like to share for the website, please email them to me. I will put them up on the site. I do have a few I took, and they are on the photos section of the website.
Finals
Regular tests will continue next week with finals exams the following week. The schedule for final exams are posted on the homework section of the website. Study guides have gone home for some of the final exams today. These include spelling, reading, science, and religion. We will also be completing review packets for math and reading when it gets closer to those exams which will serve as study guides. There will be time set aside for reviewing in class for all tests as well. All final exams count as one test grade for the third term and the writing final counts as two formal writing grades.
Please note there is no social studies final because the state fair exhibit was the final exam. For writing, the students are completing a long story. The rough drafts should have been worked on in class for the last three weeks (some students choose to do some work at home), and they were due today. The rough drafts will be read in the order I received them and returned to your child. For those students who did not pass in their rough drafts today, they will be receiving a penalty and will be the last to get their rough drafts back. All final copies are due no later than Monday, June 4th regardless of when your child gets their rough draft back.
Also, students should NOT be absent during finals week unless it is an emergency or an extreme sickness. Any time out of class can mean your child missing valuable review time or even the test itself. This also can create more stress for your child. I will not give a child their final exam ahead of its scheduled date. If there is an absence that in unavoidable, the student is expected to be prepare to take the final the missed exam the day they return plus any other finals scheduled that day. For example, if your child is absent on Tuesday and returns on Wednesday, he or she must take their missed Tuesday final plus the scheduled Wednesday final. The Monday June 11th make-up day is for missed Friday finals only, and in the event of an extreme circumstance where a student had to miss mutliple final exams days.
Fun stuff
With work comes play! I am planning to take the children to the creamery on Friday pending they behave and the weather cooperates. (I haven't told them yet as I plan to make sure the weather will be good next week before I tell them). They will need $3 (please have exact change) to pass in before we go. The children were so polite and well-behaved when we went in March so I am more than happy to take them again this year! YAY!
We also have a pizza party we won for Box Tops that I am planning on giving to the children on Friday, June 8th as a nice way to let them relax after all their finals are finished. There are still two non-uniforms passes we won from the Easter eggs we will use. I am waiting for hotter days to use these, so I will probably let the students know the day before we decide to use them.
Last Day of School
The last day of school will be taking place Thursday, June 14th. A pink paper went home today in your child's folder. We will be going to Pope Park and spent some time at school. Please read this paper over, and please let me know if you have any questions.
Summer Tutoring
I have had a few inquiries about summer tutoring. Any parent who is looking for tutoring for their child, we have a few options available through our school. Mrs. Brunelle and Miss Cory tutor in the summer. Mrs. Brunelle can be reached through her school email, and Miss Cory can be reached through the school. I can also pass information to both of them for you.
Also, I am available for tutoring as well. As of now, I still have three morning sessions available Monday thru Thursday. I can either do 8:00 to 9:00 OR 8:15 to 9:15. Please let me know if you are interested.
