Social Studies-- This week we read about the Wampanoags. The children enjoyed
learning how the native people lived before the Pilgrims came. We also
focused on finding the main idea as we read.
Math- Unit 4 involves using manipultatives to solidify an understanding of
place value and why we regroup in addition and subtraction. We will also
write numbers as words and do some work with elapsed time.
Writing- The children are finishing up the process of writing their fair
stories by using a final copy checklist to be sure they have completed all of
the proper steps. These will be typed in computer lab to be published. We
also wrote color poems where our focus was on painting a picture in our
reader's mind as we continue our study of descriptive writing. We have also
learned about adjectives and how they help us to picture a noun.
Reading- This week the children did a self-assessment of their reading
notebook. They assessed their letters and thought about what they should
work on to improve them. We covered conflict and theme through mini-lessons
last week.
Handwriting- We are moving on to capital letters. I have already introduced
all of the lowercase letters. When the children have had adequate practice I
will begin the uppercase letters. They are doing a wonderful job.
Save the Date: Tuesday, November 24, 9AM. The children will present a
poetry sharing in the classroom.
