Announcements

Welcome back third graders!!!!;-) Hope you had a great Thanksgiving.

My goals are to have my classroom become a community
of motivated, life-long learners; exhibiting responsible
behaviors at all times and to have students more
responsible for quality, meaningful homework. I will do
this by responding to the needs of each learner in a
positive manner, encouraging them in their learning
using differentiated instruction and a scale of
1-4 (novice to master) acknowledging continuous
learning by notations and anecdotal assessments.
Portfolio/assessment work will document their areas
of mastery.

"Love of reading and writing is not taught,
    it is created.
Love of reading and writing is not required,
    it is inspired.
Love of reading and writing is not demanded,
    it is exemplified.
Love of reading and writing is not exacted,
    it is quickened.
Love of reading and writing is not solicited,
    it is activated."

HELPING CHILDREN LEARN: TIPS FOR PARENTS

START THE YEAR OFF RIGHT
Here are two quick things you can do with your children to help them get
their school
year off to a great start:

* GO THROUGH YOUR CHILDREN'S BACKPACK AND TAKE-HOME FOLDER WITH
THEM EACH DAY. This will let your children know you are interested in
what
they are learning. It will also keep you informed about what your
children
are working on in class, and how they are doing.

* SET UP A HOMEWORK ROUTINE, INCLUDING A HOMEWORK AREA. Children
thrive on predictability and consistency. Discuss with your children when
and where they will do their homework every day. Try to stay as
consistent
with this time as you can whether it is after school, after dinner or
5:00
every
day. Work with your children to create a space for homework. This
could
be
as simple as placing a coffee can with crayons, pencils, a ruler, some
scissors
and a glue stick on the kitchen table.

Dear Parents/ students of mine!

Your child is expected to learn all of the spellings words (it may be 10-
15) and practice the story
vocabulary words. Also included are the Robust Vocabulary words. These
words are optional in our
test on Friday, but they will get and extra point for each correctly spelled
word, no deductions if they
aren't spelled correctly. I do that so that each student will try them if
they want.

Homework guidelines for third grade are listed on the school website main
page.

      Sincerely,
