Algebra IIA Class Expectations

CLASS MATERIALS:

A textbook will be provided for each student. You are responsible for taking good care of the textbook issued to you. It should be covered at all times. Should the textbook become lost or damaged a replacement fee must be paid before a new text can be issued. You will need to have the following supplies: pencils, erasers, pencil sharpener, ruler, notebook, and graphing calculator ( TI-83 or higher). All students are expected to take notes and to work in pencil, so they must have a good notebook and several pencils for their own use. A binder is a good idea to help organize all the math materials that will accumulate. Your personal calculator is recommended but there is a classroom set for your use if you do not have your own. The classroom calculators cannot leave the room without being signed out by the teacher.

CLASSROOM POLICIES

I will be assigning classroom seating. If you have a need for preferential seating, be sure to notify me as soon as possible. Seating will change periodically and will be determined by me. Students must be in their seats and ready to work at the late bell. Proper classroom behavior is expected, everyone should be respectful to each other and come into the class with a positive attitude. I am here to teach you and you are here to learn. Inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated. If classroom behavior becomes an issue, I will contact your parents to try to resolve the problem. If problems continue to arise, referrals will be made to the appropriate house master.

GRADING POLICY:

This course uses a point based grading system. The term grade is calculated as a ratio of the number of points you earn divided by the number of points you could have earned. Students absent on the day of a quiz or test will be required to make-up the assignment within 1 week of the assigned work. Class work and warmup work is also due within 1 week. Only students with a documented extended illness or otherwise excused absences will be granted an extension. Opportunities for extra credit will occasionally be given. All late assignments will be marked at half credit. A final exam will be administered at the end of the course. This exam will account for 10% of the final grade for the course

EXTRA HELP AND MAKE UP:

I will be available 2 afternoons after school from 2-3 PM for extra help and make up work. The exact dates are posted on a calendar on my classroom door ( B207) and also on my web site.

ATTENDANCE:

Refer to the students handbook regarding attendance. I will be sending home notices of unexcused absences when they reach a total of 4 and then periodically after that. If you have more than 7 unexcused absences from your math class, your house-master will be notified and you will have to make up that time or lose credit for the class.
