Math Club Competition ScheduleWhat is the TPS Middle School Math Club? The Thomas Prince Middle School Math Club is a very informal gathering of students from 6th, 7th and 8th grades. We meet once per week (Mondays) in Mr. Brown’s classroom (#406) after school for approximately 1 hour. Attendance is strictly voluntary. Students can attend the weekly sessions and the competitions whenever they have the time and the desire. All levels of math students are welcome. This club is NOT for catching up on homework. Nor is it to obtain extra help in math. It is intended as a fun, less structured time to possibly learn a bit more math and spend some after school time with friends playing games. The first 15 minutes or so are used to try and solve two or three slightly complex math problems. New Mathletes work with the more experienced to try and learn these problem-solving techniques. Solutions are then presented to everyone. The problems are the type that often appears in our competitions. The remaining 45 minutes is for our snack (provided by our awesome group of volunteer parents) and playing structured games … currently we are focused on becoming better chess and checker players. Competitions are also available to all of the TPS middle school Mathletes. There are 5 competitions within WRSD, hosted by each of the middle schools. There are also two competitions that the TPS Math Club attends that are hosted in the fall and spring at St. John’s High School in Shrewsbury. There may be another competition at the WRHS in the spring this year. Attendance at these is again strictly voluntary … although attending competitions gets the Mathlete one of the invaluable TPS Math Club T-shirts. We are dependent on enough parents being available to drive the Mathletes to and from each competition. If you have any questions about the Math Club, please contact Mr. Brown at 978-464-2110 or email at rod_brown@wrsd.net. *************************************************************************** Competition Schedule (may be adjusted as needed):
