Mission For The Class

There are two elements to the mission for the class: academic habits of mind
and personal responsibility.

Certainly, students should come to class prepared with all required materials:
text/novel being discussed, notebook, writing implement.

Beyond those basic requirements students should come to class with an open and
inquiring mind, ready to engage in thoughtful, informed discussion about both
the literature at hand as well as its relation to the world in which we live.

Paramount for any secondary education student is his/her developing sense of
accountibility and personal responsibility, especially as concerns his/her own
learning. Towards that end, students should be prepared to advocate for
themselves directly and in person when discussing their specific academic
situations with the teacher. Such direct student engagement leads to
students' greater personal and academic responsibility as well as fostering
more mature dialogue with adults.
