How will I stay organized?

Your child has been given an assignment notebook that will travel to
and from school along with his or her homework folder and silent reading book.
It is very important for students to become responsible for keeping track of
their homework this year.

What is expected from homework?

I expect children to be neat and try their best on all homework assignments.
Your child will have homework every night except weekends, unless we are
working on a long-term project. Homework should take anywhere between 30-40
minutes. If your child is having difficultly with an assignment and you are
helping them with it, please initial the top of it so I know that help was
given. If they have gone over a reasonable amount of time to complete the
task, please stop the student and write a note on the top of the page for
me. I keep a record of missing homework, and I will send home a copy of the
record sheet for you to sign of the terms missing homework before the end of each
term or if it becomes a problem. Also, long-term projects may be given
periodically throughout the year, and I will send notices home so that you are
aware of the projects.

What else should I know about my class?

Other important items to note:
Math Newsletters will come home once a month to keep
you informed as to what is happening in our classroom.
On most Fridays, your child will have a spelling quiz. Spelling quiz
booklets will be taken home on Monday to be signed and returned back to
school.
Your child should be reading for at least 30 minutes every night. Take the
time to ask your child what he or she is reading about!
There will be tests and quizzes throughout the year in various subjects.Study
sheets and review sheets will be sent home to help your child prepare.
I also advise helping your child study several nights before the test as to
avoid a late night the day before.
