My student has writing for homework tonight. Where can she/he go to get ideas?

In the back of every notebook there is a page labeled "seed
ideas." This is a list of possible story
topics that your student selected. They can turn back to this
page to select a new topic at any time.

They also have a list in their English binder of places they can
go to get ideas when they get stuck.
Some of these places are: other books, friends, people we know,
overheard snippets of conversation,
looking out the window, describing an object, memories,
wonderings, drawing a picture & then
writing about it, looking at artwork, describing what someone is
doing, making a list and then
choosing one topic, photographs, found objects (like a feather or
candy wrapper), etc.

And any new ways of finding topics that you can think of.

What should my student do over the summer to be ready for 3rd grade?

Two really big things...

1. Read, read, read!

2. Study their addition tables from 2nd grade & practice counting
by twos, fives, & tens to be ready for multiplication.

What is the best way to get in touch with you?

The best way is via email. Phone messages can get lost in-between papers too easily. I can be reached via email at my school email address. Unfortunately I can't always get to my email
right away. But I promise that I will respond as soon as I am able.
Thank you for your understanding!

How do I find out what the homework is?

Homework will be posted every night online for you to check. Also please check their agenda books nightly. If they have any difficulty with the homework you can write a short note there. I
also ask that you check that your child has done their homework & sign their agenda book to let me know that you saw that they
completed their work.

When do I sign the Parent/ Teacher Communication Folder?

Each Friday I'll place any checked homework & work that they completed in class during the week in the folder. I'll also place important notices in there as well. I do this so that you have an idea of what we've been doing in the class. If you could sign there to let me know that you've seen their work I'd appreciate it.
