MORNING MATH CLUB! ALL MATHLETES WELCOME!
Every Thursday morning, students are invited to attend our morning math
enrichment club. Meetings will occur weekly at 7:40 a.m., unless otherwise
noted. Students will participate in thought-provoking activities to boost
their math confidence in number sense, algebra, geometry, problem solving,
and more!
Children should come through the office door and report directly to our
classroom. There is no need to sign up. All students are welcome!
MULTIPLICATION
Students have learned about the concept of multiplication, discovering it as
a method of repeated addition. They also know that the “x” symbol may be
read as “groups of,” “sets of,” or rows of.” Along with gaining an
understanding what multiplication means, mastering basic facts is a process
of committing information to memory through repetition. Children have been
instructed to review their facts as part of their daily homework routine.
Reviewing at home will reinforce concepts taught at school and help commit
these essential facts to memory.
W-O-R-D-S!
Students should be reviewing their weekly spelling and vocabulary words at
home daily. SpellingCity is a great online resource to help reinforce
weekly word skills!
Spelling
Every Monday, we review the week’s new words and create spelling flash
cards. These cards go home each Monday and should be reviewed daily at
home. Vacations and long weekends pending, spelling tests are on Fridays.
Vocabulary
On Mondays, we discuss our weekly robust vocabulary words. Robust vocabulary
sheets should remain in Take Home folders throughout the week as children
will need to reference it for in-class assignments as well as homework.
These words should also be reviewed daily in order for students to be
familiar with the words and their meanings for our weekly lesson review.
