DAILY HOMEWORK
The purpose of homework is for children to practice what they learned at
school. In addition to subject-based homework, one standing, daily assignment
for children is independent reading. Students are required to spend 15-20
minutes at home reading from a book of their choice. This reading will be
recorded on a weekly reading log.
Here are a few additional suggestions of activities for students should they
complete all of their daily assignments:
Practice math facts (addition and subtraction)
Study spelling and vocabulary words
Visit our classroom website and access educational links
PLEASE NOTE: Daily assignments will not be posted online. Children are
responsible for recording homework assignments in their planners.
3-W STUDENT PLANNER PROGRAM
The third graders of 3-W will be using student planners. This
organizational tool is designed to help students manage their time, set
goals, prioritize, and manage long-term projects.
Students will be held accountable for their assignments. I will require
that all students bring their planners to school each day and record all
homework. I will check planners on a regular basis.
Parental involvement in the planner program is essential. Participation
will result in awareness of assignments, deadlines, tests, long-term
projects, and other school related responsibilities your child may have. On
a weekly basis, parents should sign or initial the “Parent Signature” line.
3-W HOMEWORK EXPECTATIONS
All homework assignments will include the student's name
All homework assignments will be handed in on time
All work will be done neatly
Students will check and edit their work
Students will determine and complete homework assigned during absences
Students will ALWAYS DO THEIR BEST!
HELPFUL HOMEWORK TIPS FOR PARENTS
You can help your child be successful with homework by encouraging positive
homework habits right from the start of the school year. Here are some
suggestions:
Set aside a specific time each day for working on assignments.
Designate a quiet place for doing homework.
Support your child by assisting and offering help, but do not do the
work for him/her (homework is based on classroom lessons and concepts
reviewed in class).
Notify me if your student experiences extreme difficulty with an
assignment.
If at any time you are unclear about an assignment and/or have a question
about your child's work, please do not hesitate to contact me.
FLASHCARD STUDYING TIPS
Flashcards are an excellent learning tool for students and one of the best
ways to learn and study vocabulary terms. Here are some tips:
DAILY REVIEW: Read your flashcards daily.
QUIZ YOURSELF: Read the word and try to say the definition without
flipping the card. If you are correct, place a small check mark in the
corner of the flash card. After doing this 3 or more times correctly,
take the card out of the study pile.
WORK WITH OTHERS: Study with friends and family. Talking about the
terms and definitions with others is a great way to reinforce what
you’ve learned!
