Hello Neighborhood Parents!

We are very excited about spring here in the Neighborhood, and are getting
ready to plant a garden. Our garden will be located right outside our
classroom doors, facing the playground, and will provide us a great
opportunity to see our science unit in action.
To get started, we are looking for a few items:

Equipment (can be previously used)Other
ShovelsTopsoil
TrowelsCompost
Metal rakesPlanting Mix (please, not POTTING mix)
Wheelbarrow/Garden cartPackets of seeds: lettuce, spinach, kale, early
flowers, radish, turnips, peas, or other cool weather crops

donating. Please label the tool with you last name and we will let you know
when we are done with it.

All items can be dropped off between March 19th-28th. There will be a

Today was Student Council Election Day and I want to acknowledge the
wonderful effort put forth by the six candidates - Evan, Ahbid, Kavya, Emma,
Emily and Molly. All six presented original speeches filled with great ideas
and an understanding of how they could make a difference to our classroom and
our school. I also want to compliment the class for taking the process very
seriously. It was an extremely close vote. Congratulations to our new
classroom representatives Kavya and Emma.

We have had a great week in Room 33. Thank you to all of you who sent in
wipes, tissues, and hand soap. I think we are all set for quite awhile!
Today students found out their block teachers for literacy and math. They
have a slip with this information on it for you. Also, they may have papers
from their block teachers for you to read. Blocks will start Monday,
September 12.
Scholastic Book Orders were sent home this week. Please submit any orders by
Wednesday, September 14. I do need to receive payment by check. Thank you.
In Science we are learning about soil. For an activity, each child will need
an empty water bottle (16 or 24 oz.) and a cup of soil from their yard. If
you could send the soil in a zip top plastic bag or plastic container with
their name on it I would appreciate it. We will need these supplies for
Tuesday, September 13.
Enjoy your weekend.

Thank you to everyone who sent in the required forms. Just a reminder that
the green form (that replaced the incorrect blue form!) also needs to be
returned.
Students have homework that they have written in their agenda.
Also, each year students need to bring one healthy news article in to P.E.
Several students have already done so, and we are hoping to be the class that
finishes first for the second year in a row. This article can be from a
magazine, newspaper, internet, etc. and should be something the kids can
share with the class. Healthy eating habits, value of exercise, etc. are
some likely topics.
Thank you.

Hello Parents,
Today we began an activity with the rocks that the students brought in.
Although most finished the work, some did not and have brought that
assignment home to finish and return on Tuesday. Please check with your
child. Also, students do have a homework assignment that is due Tuesday.
They will need a bit of your help with this assignment, so please check in
with them.
I have received almost all of the forms from my students, but if you have not
returned some, please do so as soon as possible as I need to get them turned
in to the office.
Every student in the classroom has purchased an agenda, so thank you very
much! We wrote assignments in the agenda today, and you should begin to see
this agenda every day.
Lastly, I am still looking for 100% sign up to my Newsflash. Thank you for
your attention to this matter.
Enjoy your weekend.

Hello everyone! I am excited to be back in the classroom. We had a very
busy day that felt like I was just talking, talking, talking! The new third
graders did great and it was wonderful to meet them.
Several information sheets and forms were sent home with your child today.
Please try and return this information as soon as possible.
Also, I talked to the kids at the end of the day and told them that they will
need to bring in a rock for Thursday. The rock can be something they find in
the yard, that they found on vacation, or that comes from the driveway. It
should fit into their hand, not too big. It should NOT be a crystal or
anything they have purchased at a gift shop or store. Try and encourage them
to look around for a rock that they think is interesting looking.
Thank you for your help with this.
Also thank you for all of the tissues, antibacterial wipes, and other
supplies that came in today. Room 33 can always use them. Something that
was in short supply today were DEAR books. Please have your child bring in a
book that they can read every day.
A reminder that summer reading sheets for the Neighborhood were due today.
Summer reading sheets for the program through the PTO should be in an
envelope and returned by September 1.
Lastly, please let me know where your child should be going after school. It
is very helpful to me and eliminates any confusion. A simple email stating
for example - "Susy takes bus 7 home every day" or "Jimmy rides bus 10 on
Tuesdays and Thursdays, but goes to EDP on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday"
would be a great help to me.
That's it for now. Please look for other updates later this week.

The first day of school is almost here! Don't forget to bring in your
supplies including a DEAR book, money for an agenda, and your summer reading
sheet on the first day.

Enjoy your summer!

Remember that playing math games is a fun way to keep up or improve your
skills and the beach is a great place to read a good book.
