School counselors at the elementary level support students in five key developmental areas: academic, personal, interpersonal, career, and health. School counselors meet regularly with all students through schoolwide programs, classroom guidance lessons, small groups, or individual settings. School counselors help students develop knowledge and skills appropriate to their age and grade and address skills in interpersonal relationships such as making and keeping friends, how to handle peer pressure, and how to safely resolve conflicts. School counselors regularly consult with parents and teachers to discuss ways to support students and are always available as a resource to parents.
Mrs. Whalen is an advocate for students and works to ensure that all students succeed in the learning environment. She has a wealth of resources for both children and parents - books, articles, helpful websites - as well as information regarding the many community supports available.
