What is the Classroom All-Star?
Throughout the year, each child will have an opportunity to be
our class All-Star for the week. We will learn more about them as
they bring in items to share. I will send a set of forms home the
Friday before your child's special week; please do not send items
in before the start of their week.
What forms of parent-teacher communication are available?
Please check your child's RED classroom folder each night for daily
information or check this website (especially Announcements and Calendar) for
more information. You may jot a note in the folder or call if needed or email
me to get in touch. I will make every effort to respond in a timely manner.
How is homework handled in First Grade?
Each week's homework packet will come home on Monday and be due
back on Friday. Please be sure to work with your child to
complete the work throughout the week (not all on the last
night). The homework is usually a review of the past week's
lessons. We may have occasionally have mini-projects that require
parental assistance. There is a daily requirement for reading
that your child will log on their Book-It or Star Log and return
each Friday. Spelling words are assigned on Monday and tested on
Friday; children may have different spelling lists.
What is the Poem, Prayer & Song Book?
To encourage reading together and sharing of poetry, songs and
prayers, your child will have weekly or bi-weekly poems and/or
songs to share at home in their Poetry book. This will come home
most Thursdays and be due back on Monday or the first day of
school that week. Please sign the Parent sheet on
the book each time your child shares with you.
How is discipline handled?
Carroll Lutheran uses the CHRIST program to help students
remember to conduct themselves as Christians (outlined in your
handbook). I use a variety of individual, team, and class
incentives to help all children stay focused and
be successful each day.
What is suggested for Birthday celebrations?
We encourage your child to celebrate their special day with their
class. You may bring in a special snack for the morning snack
time (e.g., muffins, cupcakes, cookies, fruit snack, popsicles)--
no whole cakes please. NEW this year!!!- please only send in enough treats for
the first grade class and the teacher and assistant, if desired. Children
will no longer be going class to class to share birthday treats with other
teachers and staff. Thank you for your help with this.
How should we handle birthday invitations at school?
Here at CLS we ask that you send birthday invitations through the
mail or use email. Each family receives a school-wide directory
with names, addresses and e-mails.
What is the Daily Schedule for First Grade?
Please check out our online Class Schedule and Calendar for the
latest. We have Music on Mondays, Art on Tuesdays (bring in your smock),
Library on Wednesdays (send in your book ), Spanish on Thursdays, and PE
on Fridays (wear your gym uniform!).
