Fort Necessity in Pennsylvania was the site of the battle that
started the
French & Indian War! Visit this National Park Service site to
learn more about
this first battle, lead by a very young George Washington (who
was only 21
years old and a newly commissioned lieutenant colonel in the
British
Army--Yes, British Army--remember that we were only British
Colonies and not
yet independent from England!). Washington escaped death several
times during
this campaign, and if he had died he would never have become our
First
President of the United States.
