Teacher’s Comments
Our first big Quarterly Assessment is coming up. It is a county assessment,
not a school-based assessment. It will cover all the information we learned
in first quarter. Make sure to review notes, use the websites, review
homework assignments, and practice problems that help you in areas in which
you struggled.
I have been noticing in this Computation Unit many basic skills mistakes from
many students. I keep reminding the students that they need to have mastery
of those basic skills to do well in GT Math. We had a baseline, timed pop
quiz this week to see how we each were doing individually. Several students
did very well, but some really need to practice basic addition, subtraction,
multiplication, and division problems to increase speed and/or accuracy. It is
my hope that these scores will improve over time. Once a student has received
two 100% in a row, they are exempt from future basic skills pop quizzes. They
doesn’t mean they should stop practicing these skills though. The practice we
put in, the easier it is for us to recall these skills quickly. It can really
help the homework take less time and the score can go up.
