Laurel High School Registration for 8th grade students will be Friday, April
12, 2013. Students will meet individually with a counselor from the high
school to register for their courses. For more information contact Ms. Rupp

The Eighth Grade promotion ceremony will be June 3, 2013 at Laurel High
School. Your 8th grade student will bring home a letter with more
information regarding the program and the expected dress for the event. For

Eight Grade Parents - MSDE has required that all students in transitional
grades (grades 5,6 and 8 for SY 13-14) provide an updated registration form
and accompanying proof of residence in order to maintain continuous
registration in Prince George's County Public Schools. If you provided the
updated registration with appropriate documents either at your child's
elementary school last spring or over the summer at DDEMS, you need take no
further action. If you have not provided us with an updated registration,
appropriate documentation must be completed by May 1, 2013, in order
to remain enrolled in school. Failure to do so by the deadline may result in
your child not receiving a copy of their next year's schedule and your
child's withdrawal from school year 2013-20104 until appropriate documention

Homework Requests-If your child will be out of school for 3 or more days due
to illness or other excused absence, please call Ms. Bullock, Guidance
Secretary, to request make-up work. Please remember it is a 48 hour turn
around once the request is made for work to be ready for pick up. When
requesting work, please let Ms. Bullock know who will be picking up the
assignments.

come first served basis.

Each program has their own deadline for application and entrance

The Parent Portal - Parents, the Parent Portal is an important communication
tool between you and your child's teachers. No more will you have to wonder
if your child is turning in all of their work or wait for a parent/teacher
conference. The Portal allows you to see your child's grades, attendance and
discipline information (if any)live. If you have not activated your account,
please contact Ms. Bullock or any member of the guidance staff to receive
your activation code.
Service Learning Requirements - Students are required to complete 24
direct service hours by their senior year of high school. All students are
encouraged to begin this process in middle school. Service hours
must be completed at Prince George's County approved sites. You may find
approved Service Learning sites by visiting
http://www.princegeorgesvolunteer.org/. In addition, the Service Learning
Verification form has changed. Students and parents may come by the guidance
office to pick up the new form.

If your home address in incorrect, please make certain to come to the
Guidance Office so that we may update it. Correct information is
necessary so your child's bus will be correctly assigned for the
upcoming school year. Information may only be updated by completing
a blue registration form and providing a copy of proof of residence
(lease, deed, or settlement papers).
