As part of the graduation requirements, students are required to complete
hours towards a Service Learning Requirement. Beginning January 1, 2008,
changes have been made to the Service Learning requirement.
Students graduating between 2008 and 2013 will continue to need 36 hours of
outside Service Learning in order to graduate, as well as their curriculum
infused hours. Beginning with the class of 2014, (the 2008-2009 7th
graders), students will be required to complete 24 hours of outside Service
Learning and 51 hours of curriculum infused hours through social studies and
science.
Note: Hours completed under the old guidelines prior to January 1, 2008,
will be accepted.
All outside Service Learning must include a preparation, an action, and a
reflection component in order to be considered valid hours. In addition,
students should complete their service learning experience at approved
locations. Hours should be completed at non-profit organizations, with the
exception of nursing homes, licensed daycares and hospitals. Hours should be
documented on the new Service Learning Verification form, which can be found
in the guidance office.
