What are Classroom Guidance Lessons? Classroom Guidance is designed to address the personal, academic, healthy, interpersonal, and career development of students. Students in grades K-5 are currently receiving one to four visits per month from the counselor. Lessons focus on the Stop & Think, Preventative Counseling, and Character Education. How does Individual Counseling work? Students are able to self-refer themselves to see the counselor when needed; mailbox and slips are provided in front of the counselor's office and in each classroom. Group counseling is provided when a teacher/parent referral is used or on a needed basis. Various groups will run through out the school year. Each group will last between 3 - 6 weeks depending on the needs of the group. Informal lunch bunches are held with the counselor to help students problem solve situations or for any particular student need(s) or for the counselor to get to know students better. Is my child in trouble when they go see the counselor? No; students see me for a variety of reasons. My job is to problem solve with students and brainstorm positive choices for actions and behaviors. Students come to see me for support, advice, or as someone to talk to and share thoughts/ideas with . |
