4/30/12: Copies of handouts for each week can be found under Course Documents and Notes
You did it! It’s the final
quarter of the year, and it is time to refine all those writing skills we have
practiced all year long. During this quarter, you will work on your own writing
piece – essay, short story, poem collection, etc. In class,
we will be reviewing the Traits of Writing and how authors create elements such
as voice, description, tone, and conflict. I sincerely hope this is just a
launching pad to a summer of written expression! As a culminating activity to
this unit, we will be presenting our work to a live audience.
In order to prepare for the
final presentation, students will complete the calendar on the reverse side of
the handout to assign themselves tasks for each week until the due date. Since we will be working in class on a
separate essay related to our study of folklore, this project
is completed almost entirely at home. However, it is also the only homework for
the remainder of the school year.

I'm glad that you have found your way to the English website! This site, along with Aspen, will be your best resource during the school year for all things English. I will upload communication sent home to be signed here on the web under
Class Information. Since students glue these items into their Interactive Notebook (5 subject spiral), you may want to have a second copy saved on your home computer/calendar.
Class notes, study guides, homework assignments, etc. will also be uploaded for you to use at home. Class PowerPoints are available for approximately two weeks for students to review. While they may help to give clarity to the student, they are not intended to replace actual classroom instruction. When your child is absent, they can simply print the frames needed to glue notes into their Notebook.
Please register your email address with your child's name using the button below. You will only need to do this once. By registering your email address, you will receive an alert each time this site is updated. I will post quiz dates, project dates, Quarterly Assessment reviews, and paper deadlines on the Announcements page as well as the
Homework pages.
