Welcome to Mr. Thompson's music class website. Here you will find
information about the music program at Francis Scott Key School.
Students may sign up for band on Tuesday at 3:05. If you played in
elementary school please continue your education with the FSK School.
We have some exciting field trips for the band and many more performances
coming this year.
We still have positions available for clarinet and flute in the school band.
No experience is needed if you join the beginning band.
Positions are still availabe for flute, clarinet and trombone.
9/25 Classes 6-11, 6-70,7-70 and 8-11 received their first music test.

In one week the FSK Band will be performing at the Baltimore City Schools
Band Festival at Edmondson High School at 11:30am. The band festival is on
Thursday, March 20, 2008.

Come see the FSK Band in the "One Night Only Concert" May 29,2008 at
5:00PM.

All students who played in their elementary bands should sign up for the FSK
Band. We have many great performances coming this year. We also have two
great field trips coming this year. See Mr.Thompson for more details in room
204. Sign up deadline is 10/3/08.

Woodwind sectional practice will be on Tuesday 10/14/08 at 3:05.

All instruments must go home on the weekend. Students will receive practice
assignments everyweekend.

Today The FSK Band made video of the songs Tempest and The Star Spangle
Banner. This video will be played on the school's channel one station during
American Education Week. We are currently practicing for our performance at
The Gallery Mall on December16,2008 at 11:30am.

Yesterday the FSK band performed at the elementary Christmas program. The
program was a huge success. The Gallery Mall trip has been postponed for
later next year. After Christmas, we will start preparing for the Baltimore
City Schools Band Festival.

I would like to go back and thank the five FSK Band students who
participated in the school talent show. Their instruments consisted of
trumpet, flute and percussion. They did a fantastic job. Thank you
again.

Every Thursday in general music class we learn about jazz history by
answering questions based on Ken Burns popular Jazz documentary. We try to
learn about styles of music that students normally don't listen to.

The FSK Band is practing for our second video which will be shown on the the
school's channel one station.

Next week the FSK Jazz Band will record a video tribute to the great jazz
tenor saxophonist Sonny Rollins. This video will be shown on the school's
channel one station to celebrate black history month.

This week the FSK Jazz band recorded a video performance of Tenor Madness as
a tribute to Sonny Rollins. The video will be shown next week to celebrate
black history month. Thank you to all the students who made this performance
possible.

We are currently preparing for the Baltimore City Schools Band Festival
which will take place on April 1, 2009 at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute.

This week in general music class, we are working on playing the blues in the
key of F. Our goal is to play the blues in as many different keys.

Band Festival yesterday. You all did a wonderful job.

Yesterday six FSK Band students performed at Christ United Church of Christ.
Thank you to all the musicians who performed. It was great performance. Right
now the FSK Band is preparing for our annual spring concert.

The FSK Band will have a Spring Concert during the 4th week of May. The date
and time is TBA. We will be playing songs like The Tenth Planet, Ayre and
Dance and The Tempest.

The FSK Band will be live and in concert Thursday May 28, 2009 at 11:30am.
One show only, do not miss it. Join us in a celebration of great music.

A very special thank you goes out to all the students who made this year a
success. Thank you to the general music students who learned to play the
keyboard and learned about all the great jazz and classical artists. Thank
you to the elementary students who played the recorders, played musical
games, sung songs and watched musical movies. Thank you to the band students
who work hard, practice hard, play hard and perform hard. Everyday was not
easy, but we had some great moments. Thank you again.

Welcome back to all FSK students. Permission slips for band will be given out
next Monday. All general music students should have a three ring binder with
a music section.

The FSK band is looking for new students to replace last year graduates.
This year we look forward to going to Baltimore City Schools Band Festival
and performing in school concerts. The deadline for joining the band will be
October 2, 2009.

All band students must practice on the weekend. Band students will be given
weekly assignments to practice. General music students are working on
playing blues melodies on the keyboard and music reading drills.
10/1/09
The deadline for joining the FSK Band is one day away. If you don't join
this week you must wait until 2nd semester. The band is playing some really
great music this year, so don't wait until it's too late.

There will be a one week extension for students who would like to join the
school band. We have just received some repaired instruments from the repair
shop. Come see Mr.Thompson as soon as possible for more details.

The extension for joining the band has ended for the first semester. The FSK
Band is currently rehearsing for a band video for the school channel.

The FSK Band is currently practicing for a Christmas program. We have many
great songs for the program. We will play some traditional Christmas songs
and some non traditional songs as well.
