Journal
Prime Time journals are used daily at the beginning of class for drill. Each
daily drill must be kept in chronological order. They are part of the
classwork grade and will be collected and graded each quarter. If a drill is
missed due to absence, students must refer to the Prime Time binder, which
is kept in the classroom, in order to make up the drill.
Classwork
All daily classwork notes and activities must be kept in a labeled tab
section of the binder. These assignments serve as a reference (of study) for
quiz, test and project preparations. Classwork sections will be graded each
quarter.
Homework
Homework assignments are posted on the board. Students copy the homework
assignment into their agenda immediately following drill. Assignments are
also posted daily on my website. If a student is absent, it is their
responsibility to retrieve the assignment from the website or from their
class folder in my room on the day they return to school. Homework is due
the next day unless a more appropriate date is decided upon between you and
I due to their reason of absence.
Projects
Approximately two projects will be given each unit. They may be individual
or group projects.
Test/Quiz
At least one test and one quiz will be given for each unit.
Student Folders
All graded work is kept in a student folder. The student folders do not
leave my classroom. Parents and students will have access to these folders
to view productivity and growth.

August 27, 2007
Dear Parents,
Welcome back! Your child will have a new course this year. I will be
teaching Health Education to grades 6-8. I am pleased to be teaching at
Francis Scott Key and look forward to working with both of you. I ask that
each student work hard as we prepare for a challenging and rewarding school
year. Your son or daughter will be challenged to meet and exceed not only my
expectations but yours as well.
There are a few supplies that your child will need for my class. They should
have a 3 ring binder, notebook paper, a composition notebook (journal) and a
steady supply of writing utensils. Pens (2) and pencils (2) are preferred.
In order to teach proper study skills, note taking and labeling students
will also need colored pencils and at least two highlighters.
Communication between home and school is extremely important. We will be in
contact via phone, mail and through my teacher website which can be found on
our school website (www.fsk.org). Agendas are mandatory to write homework
assignments in and for communication between the teacher and parents. If you
have any questions or concerns feel free to jot me a note in the agenda. I
will be looking at agendas on a daily basis. I can also be reached at school
(410-396-1503) and would encourage you to set up an appointment to meet with
me whenever you have a question or concern. I am here to be an aid in your
child’s success!
Best Regards,
Ms. Price

Ms. Price’s Classroom Guide
Here are some frequently asked questions about classroom procedures and
behavior:
CLASSROOM PRCEDURES
How do I enter the classroom?
The class as a whole should be lined up in a single file line outside the
door until instructed to come in. As soon as you enter the room you are to
quietly move to your assigned seat. You are not to be up sharpening pencils
or walking around the room. You must quietly take out your journal and
begin your drill.
What do I do if I need to sharpen my pencil?
As a prepared student you should always have at least have 2 sharpened
pencils. All pencils should be sharpened before class. If you need to
sharpen your pencil, raise your hand and wait to be called on. You will then
be given an opportunity to sharpen your pencil.
What do I do if I have a question?
If you have a question you should quietly raise your hand and wait to be
called on. We often have class discussions and all students are encouraged
to contribute. I want to hear your ideas and opinions! In order to
contribute you must raise your hand and wait your turn. You are also
expected to be respectful of others comments during discussions.
What do I do if I want to throw any paper away?
If you have any unwanted paper around or on your desk, throw it away on your
way out the door at the end of class.
How do I behave during group work?
In class we will have group and pair work. Once the groups are designated
you are expected to sit quietly and wait for instructions. You are to use
inside voices when talking to the members in your group. The discussions in
your group should be related to the topic given. If your group has a
question, use the “ask 3 before me” rule. This means to ask 3 group members
in your group before asking me. Group work is given in order to promote
cooperative learning therefore you are expected to work together to find
answers/solutions/ideas. If your group is still having a problem after you
have used each other as a resource one person from the group can raise their
hand for my assistance.
How do I know when Ms. Price wants the classes’ attention?
Every class will be given the signal. I will raise my hand and ask for “your
attention please”. When you see and hear the signal you are to immediately
stop, wait, and listen for instructions.
What do I do if I have to go to the restroom?
It is school policy that you can not go 15 minutes after the class has begun
or 15 minutes before the class is over.
You are to raise your hand and be given permission to go to the restroom, a
pass is required.
ACADEMICS
How do I behave during a test?
Tests are a chance to apply all you have learned and show that you
understand the information covered. You will always be informed of tests
dates…no surprises. It is critical that everyone has a chance to take their
test without disruptions. There will be NO talking during a test. If you
have a question during a test, raise your hand and I will assist you. If you
are caught talking during a test you will be given a warning. The next
offense will result in a zero.
How important is it for me to be prepared for class?
Being prepared for class is the key to your success in this class. You must
bring all materials including homework.
How do I behave in the computer lab?
In class we often work in the computer lab and use the mobile lab. It is
imperative that you understand the rules of the lab. There are automatic
blockers on each computer to prevent illegal activity or inappropriate
content. Please use good judgment in researching in the lab.
Any inappropriate use of the computers will result in banning from all
school labs. Students will be given a handout explaining legal and ethical
use of the computers. We will discuss appropriate use in the labs and all
parents are to sign the form giving parental consent.
Will homework be assigned?
You will be given homework. Your assignments should be written in your
agenda. If you are absent it is the students’ responsibility to get the
homework from the designated folder in the class room and complete it by the
next day. Homework will also be posted on my website so you can access
missed work from your home computer.
How do I turn in my assignments?
Anything you hand in to me should be neat. Your work is a direct reflection
of you, you should be proud of all work you turn in. Any assignments you
turn in should be neat and legible. Pencils are preferred and final copies
can be in pen. All final copies must be free of stray marks and scratches.
What do I do if I finish my work early?
If you finish early you may read, catch up on Health assignments if you were
absent the day before or you may begin your Health homework for the night.
You are to remain quiet when you are finished allowing our classmates to
finish without disruptions. I may ask you if you would like to get an
activity bin in order to keep yourself busy while others are finishing.
MORE GENERAL QUESTIONS
What is your classroom policy on discipline?
It is important that students are in a safe environment that enables them
to learn. We can all work together and commit to the classroom rules:
Expectations:
1. Be on time.
2. Respect yourself, others and things (books, classroom materials etc.)
3. Follow all directions the first time given.
4. Always do your BEST work.
5. Be yourself.
Supply List:
1. 3 Ring Binder with notebook paper
2. Journal
3. Pens (2), Pencils (2)
4. Colored Pencils
5. Highlighters
Grading Scale:
Projects 25%
Homework 20%
Classwork 30%
Test/Quiz 25%
Severe Clause:
Fighting, profanity to the teacher/disrespect, stealing, and vandalism will
result in an AUTOMATIC REFERRAL to the assistant principal.
In Class Behavior Management:
If there is a problem with classroom guidelines or procedures an “infraction
notice” will be filled out by the student and teacher in order to solve the
problem. The next infraction will result in implementation of a devised
action plan and a call home to the parent/guardian. The third infraction
will result in a call home to set up a parent/teacher conference.
Will quality work and good behavior be recognized?
I love to recognize and commend students for good behavior in and around
school. I would like to brag about a great class this year! Rewards and
special classroom privileges will be given to those who earn them.
Students, I look forward to seeing you tomorrow with all of your supplies
and a smile on your face!
