Can we send something in for my child's birthday?

We have a special ritual in our classroom to honor the birthday child,he/she
receives birthday wishes on our school's in house TV broadcast, and your
child will get a special birthday pencil. I'm sorry but the county no longer
allows us to have edible birthday treats.

Do the children take naps?

We provide a quiet time. During that time the children can put their
heads down on the tables to rest as we play relaxing music. The children
also bring small hand towels to put their heads upon during quiet time.

Do the children wear smocks when they paint?

The students are offered smocks but I do not require anyone to wear
them. Kindergarten can be a messy adventure so please don't send
your child to school wearing clothes that will cause distress if it
becomes stained. My motto is: Stained but clean.

Question #6 (blank)

Your child's teachers work together to prepare appropriate homework
activities for your child. Therefore, we will not send home additional
homework. However, your child will bring home teacher-made books which
he/she is to read to you at home. Look for a note either in the homework
book or in the Extended Day Kindergarten folder that tells you if your child
should keep this book at home or return it to school the next day. Usually
these books will be coming back to school the next day.

What is the procedure for collecting papers sent from home?

When you have papers to return to school, your child should hand it in to the
teacher upon his/her arrival. I ask the children several times every morning
if they have anything for me and will often suggest they check even if they
don't know for sure. This request is often repeated at the end of the day.
We are trying to help your child develop independence. If you see that your
child has been bringing home the papers you have intended for us, please
don't hesitate to call and we'll be happy to help your child remember to hand
them in the next day.

Do the children bring lunch?

The children may either purchase a school lunch or bring their own.If
your child wishes to get a school lunch, please send the money in an
envelope marked with your child's name. I suggest getting a zippered pencil
pouch
to contain the money you send back and forth from school. The school lunch
cost $1.50. If your child wishes to purchase milk to drink with the lunch
he/she brought from home, the cost is 30 cents. They can select fat free,
whole, or chocoate milk. on the outside.

The cafeteria does sell snacks but this will not be offered to
Kindergarteners this year.
