About the Teacher

This is my fifth year at Harper's Choice, and I love it! I have taught 6th,
7th, and 8th grade English. I love the literature in the 8th grade the best,
but appreciate having worked with every grade level here.

I graduated from the University of Northern
Iowa in 2005 with a BA in English-Teaching. I moved to Howard County to
complete my internship as a guest of Towson University in partnership with
UNI. After my successful internship at Folly Quarter Middle and Wilde Lake
High, I didn't want to leave Howard County!

I also teach SAT Prep for Howard County, Summer Academic Intervention, and
enjoy helping with Writer's Workshop and Drama Club.

On a more personal note, I love reading (especially the Twilight
Series). I'm a sports fan of the Baltimore Ravens and Orioles I have a great dog named Jack, a funny
looking cat named Pookie, and a clever husband named Mr. Krauss.

Mission for the Class

"Literature adds to reality, it does not simply describe it. It enriches the
necessary competencies that daily life requires and provides; and in this
respect, it irrigates the deserts that our lives have already become." ~C.S. Lewis

In 8th grade English, the mission is for students to attain an appreciation of
literature and language that will enhance students' lives. To this end,
students read and analyze epic poetry, Romeo and Juliet, and science fiction
literature. They write about the literature and their own lives and study the
structure and effective use of the English language.
