Welcome back to school! The summer has quickly disappeared, and I know
you are all thrilled to be back. I am eager to get to know each of you! I
believe this is going to be a great year for all of us.
Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I was born in Cleveland,
Ohio,
but moved to Maryland when I was just a toddler and have been here ever
since. Fortunately, my two older siblings have moved to faraway places, so I
get to escape from Maryland every once in a while to visit them. It's a
great excuze to get away every once in awhile
I didn’t have to go too far to get married, though. My husband and I
were married in Washington, D.C. two years ago December. Never having driven
in D.C.
before, we found ourselves quite lost as we tried to leave the city,
spending about three hours doing an impromptu tour of our nation’s capital
before finally stumbling upon Maryland. Getting lost is always something of
an adventure, and I highly recommend it for those who are in no rush to get
where they are going. Soon after we were married, we
adopted a wonderful puppy named Whitaker. Don’t ask me his breed because I
have no idea, but he is a sweetie. Unfotunately, despite being a sweetie,
his nickname is also Destructor... you can wager a guess as to what that
means.
I have a Bachelor’s degree in English and Secondary Education from
the University of Maryland, College Park. Go Terps! Also, over the summer I
finished up a Master's Degree in Reading Education. None of us ever stop
being students.
When I graduated from high school and was considering a career, I
honestly did not know what I wanted to do. After one semester as a Chemistry
major, I decided that I never wanted to titrate again, and moved as far away
from the chemistry labs as possible… to the English building. I never looked
back, and can no longer imagine doing anything other than teaching.
Three of my favorite pastimes are: running, experimenting with food
in the kitchen, much to the pleasure (and sometimes horror) of my husband,
and relaxing with a good book. I began running in earnest about six years
ago because my husband wanted a running partner, and now I have turned
Whitaker into a great running partner as well!
I’m truly looking forward to my second year at Howard High School, and I
hope
that we have an interesting and memorable year together.
