I will be co-teaching English 10 with Mrs. Hamilton and Ms. Blauvelt. I am
very excited to be with both of these teachers. We have a strong working
relationship and I am looking forward to being in class with them.
Just a little information on my background, I earned my B.A. in English
Literature in 1983 from the University of Detroit, Mercy in Detroit, Michigan,
my home town. This is my 11th year at Howard, but only my fifth year teaching.
Before teaching, I was the facilitator for the Maryland's Tomorrow Program. I
am a certified Secondary English and Special Education teacher.
Both of my sons graduated from Howard, one in 1999 and the other in 2003. So
I was a Lion mom long before I was a staff member. I was originally hired to
coach the Varsity Cheer Team and eventually hired on full time as the
Maryland's Tomorrow facilitator. I coached varsity cheerleading (one of my
passions) until December of 2005.
My previous work experience has included 15 years with U.S. Customs Service,
in D.C. and Baltimore and 6 years with Chrysler Corporation in Detroit.
During my tenure at U.S. Customs, I also worked for one year at The White
House on a special detail. While in college, I had the opportunity to study
Shakespeare and British Literature in London, England. I also interned at a
NBC local newsroom as an investigative reporter and production assistant.
One of my primary duties in class is to support the needs of all students. As
a special education case manager, my duties are to support the academic needs
of students on my caseload, by corresponding with teachers, administrators and
parents to ensure the adherence of the student's IEP for the school year.
My hobbies are reading and writing anything. I also love spending quallity
time with my two lovely granddaughters. I am still involved in cheerleading,
working as a head judge for American Cheer and Dance Academy on the weekends.
I am honored and proud to be a Lion and hope that I can instill a love of
literature, and African American studies into all the students in my
classes.
If for any reason you have any questions about your child's class, do not
hesitate to contact me at school. Looking forward to meeting each of you.
My mission for all students in my class, is that every child can and will
excel. The mission for my class is to set high standards, have fun, expect
the best from every student and to meet the goals set forth by HHS and
HCPSS.
If at any time you wish to contact me the best and quickest way is to email
me. My email address is Daneace_Jeffery@hcpss.org. I check my emails
several times a day and in the evening.
