Ms. Mundy is thrilled to have another year as 6th grade
reading teacher at LKMS. Ms. Mundy helped to open LKMS and spent three years
at BBMS as reading instructional leader and reading specialist. Ms. Mundy
returned to the classroom and LKMS to enjoy the creativity and energy that can
only be found in the middle school classroom. Ms. Mundy loves middle schoolers
and understands their hectic life and their needs. The best part about middle
school is the students themselves.
This is Ms. Mundy's 18th year teaching in the Howard County Public School
System. She has a Bachelor's degree in Secondary English Education and a
Master's Degree from Loyola College as a certified Reading Specialist.
Ms. Mundy has two children of her own - both former Howard County Public
School students. Her 23 year-old daughter Alex is a graduate of Glenelg High
School and is a recent graduate of Vanderbilt University where she also played
lacrosse for the Commodores. She is now living and working in New Haven, CT
where she is the Assistant Coach at Yale University. Jimmy
is a junior student at Salisbury University and is a former student of
Centennial High School. He is on the soccer team at Salisbury as a
midfielder. He would play soccer 24 hours a day if he could!
When Ms. Mundy isn't watching games, she finds herself on a soccer
field somewhere on the east coast. She recently returned to "the stage" and
directed "Once Upon a Mattress" at LKMS. She had so much fun with her cast,
that she's returned to direct last year's production of "Bye Bye Birdie" at
LKMS! She just finished a 2 1/2 month run of "Anything Goes" as Reno at Toby's
Dinner Theatre. Ms. Mundy loves to "belt out" a song once in a
while...so beware!!!!!! Back in the old days, when Ms. Mundy actually had
time, she would love to perform on any stage at any time!
Last but not least, Ms. Mundy also has a wonderful husband named Jim who
taught AP Government and Honors Government classes at Glenelg High School. He
just retired last year. He is madly in love with Sanny's (my first pet) sister
- a Chihuahua
named Tiger or Tiggles.
P.S. The reading goddess says that the SECRET MESSAGE IS READING ROCKS and SO
DO HER STUDENTS!
My mission for my reading classes is to instill the joy and importance of
reading in ALL of my students. I hope to impress upon my students the
absolute necessity of becoming an active, strategic reader so that all
students will be successful in high school and beyond. Students will be
given the tools to handle all levels of text - and it is my hope that they
will incorporate those tools into their daily lives. My students will also
become successful in their ability to express in writing their understanding
of all levels of text. Most importantly, my students will become
independent, critical readers.
