How can I get a hold of Mrs. Rea?

Try emailing me at kari.rea@pgcps.org. I check my email frequently during the school work and at
least once a day on weekends. You may also find me in my room during Spartan Hour. If you would
like to meet with me before or after school, let me know in advance so I can make sure I'm available.
Teachers frequently have meetings after school, so I may not be in the classroom.

What is the grading policy for this course?

Grades are determined using the following scale:
A = 90% - 100%
B = 80% - 89%
C = 70% - 79%
D = 60% - 69%
E = 0% - 59%
(If you fall in the last two categories, expect to spend Spartan Hour with me.)

Assignments fall into one of these categories:
Classwork 25%
Homework 25%
Assessments 50%

Do you take make-up work? Late work?

I accept make-up work only if you have a valid PGCPS excuse for your absence. Otherwise, the answer
is no. See the syllabus for more information.

Late homework will not be accepted. Please do not do it at the beginning of class... that's a 0.
Please do not tell me it is in your locker... that's a 0.

Major assignments are the only exception. They will be accepted late, but there is a penalty. See
the syllabus for more information.

What about copied work? Cheating?

My background is in research and information studies. I spent graduate school learning about
copyright laws. Therefore, I take plagiarism very seriously. Please don't do it... it is dishonest and
I'll have to give you a O.

Cheating will also earn you a 0. Ask me to tell you my cheating story someday during class.

What are my responsibilities?

First, please come to class with a positive attitude. It makes the day go so well!

1. Come to class prepared and on time.
2. Uniforms and ID badges must be worn. If you leave for a Uniform Sweep, any assignments
missed will receive a 0.
3. When I am speaking, students are not.
4. There is no talking during PA announcements.
5. Cell phones must be off and out of sight. (I went to school in the pre-cell phone era, so I know
we can survive without them!)
6. Any student earning below 70% is required to attend Spartan Hour until the grade improves.

What is Mrs. Rea's background?

This will be my 7th year at Laurel High School. I took two years off to be with my children, but I also
spent that time taking professional development courses. (Teachers never really leave...) When I'm
not teaching or being a student, I enjoy spending time with my family.

Before LHS, I spent years studying and working at the University of Maryland College Park. I received
my English degree in 2000 and a Master of Library Science in 2002. I worked in the library, taught
orientation courses, and gave campus tours. I'm a proud TERP, so don't be surprised if you hear me
singing the fight song (badly) during football season.
