Hello, my name is Mrs. Terry Hawley, and I am a highly qualified teacher
certified in the state of Maryland. This is my 17th year of
teaching, with 11 years at MacArthur Middle.
I received a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education (Grades 1-8) from the
University of Maine at Presque Isle in 1991 and a Masters in
Educational Counseling from the University of Phoenix, Hawaii Campus in 2000.
My first teaching experience occurred in 1993-2000 at Pearl Harbor Elementary
school in Hawaii, on the island of Oahu, in grades 3 and 5. The wonderful
keiki (children) of Hawaii will always have a place in my heart.
Teaching has touched my life since I was a little girl in upstate New York.
Both my parents taught in the same small K-12 school that my four siblings and
I attended. My mother recently retired from 25 years as a music teacher, and
my dad was a math teacher and soccer coach for over 30 years. Both highly
influenced my life as they raised five successful children in a loving, yet
no-nonsense household. My father's parenting and teaching style was strict,
yet fair, with his kind humanistic ways. This web page is dedicated to him
because his presence guides me daily; especially in the classroom.
My goal is to help every student develop the motivation to work up to his/her
potential with a positive attitude so that challenges can be tackled and
meaningful life-long learning will take place.
I strive to be a positive role model for all students by
implementing meaningful, creative lessons with an upbeat attitude, and to
communicate effectively with students and parents.
