Week of November 30th
Reminders and Announcements
*We are so excited to kick off our Pay It Forward Program. Be
sure to continue to ask your child for details. We truly feel this is a
life changing opportunity for all!
Week Ahead for Intermediate 2:
This week in Literature we will continue our new novel. All groups will
be reading Detectives in Togas. This novel is a history-mystery where seven
boys in Ancient Rome solve strange crimes . . . thanks to some help from
their cranky teacher, a little bit of logic, and a lot of amusing
misadventure. This week we are reading chapters three and four. The
students will be working on main idea and conflict solution. Some students
will be learning the GIST strategy for summarizing important events after
reading an article that goes along with our book. Our word study groups will
continue with Greek and Latin root words and looking at prefixes and
suffixes and their meaning.
In writing we are using all we have learned about the trait Ideas to
write an adventure story in paragraph form. This story will be taken through
the writing process. Some students may have brought home
their rough draft over the holiday break, if they felt they needed time out
of class to finish their rough draft. On Monday we will begin revising and
editing our writing. We hope to be working on our final copies by the end
of the week.
The Intermediate 2 class is planning a Poetry Reading Event for sharing
their amazing work on their poetry books. This week the student will help
plan the event to show their work and create invitations. More details to
following!
In math the students have started geometry! We are learning how to
use a protractor correctly!!! The students will measure angles with a
protractor, and classify them as acute, right, obtuse, or straight. We will
also develop our math vocabulary with geometric terms.
In history we are learning about Ancient Rome. This week we will create
a timeline for event dates in the history of the Roman Empire. This gives
us a framework for learning about the destruction of Pompeii, how
archeologists have been able to study the culture, and what we know about
the forgotten ancient city.
In geography we are learning to read and use road maps.
P.E.P.:
Students should study countries in Europe to be assessed Monday, November
30th.
Pay It Forward plan sheets are due Monday, November 30th.
