Please be patient with the update this week. Marge has had a death in her
family (Wednesday). She would normally do the update on Wednesday evening.
Instead she needs to use the evening to take care of some family things and
prepare for her substitute next week. The funeral will probably be on
Monday. THANKS! Update will happen some time this weekend.
Happy birthday to Julianna and Nevaeh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please pray for the students and families who are suffering from the current
flu virus. Please pray for protection for the students and faculty who are
well.
WE CANNOT REPEAT THIS ENOUGH: KEEP YOUR ILL CHILD AT HOME!!! You have an
obligation to your own child and to the others in the room (and community) to
avoid exposing others to your child'd illness. Some of us are using very
good judgement in this area(THANK YOU), while others are using VERY poor
judgement.
Please remember this. The situation works both ways. We try to avoid
exposing your well child to an ill child too!
We are always strict about excluding ill children from our classroom, but we
want you to know that due to the H1N1 flu possibilities this year, we will
have to be even more strict. We are currently experiencing flu-like symptoms
in some of our children. You must keep your child home if he or she has any
of the symptoms outlined for you in the K-4 Parent Handbook. This especially
includes coughs and sore throats. If your child develops symptom(s) in
school you will need to come pick him/her up immediately. If you do not have
a plan for IMMEDIATE pick up, you need to develop one. Your child can not
return to class until symptom free (without medicine) for 24 hours. Even if
you have a note from a doctor, Open Bible reserves the right to determine if
your child is well enough for class. If you bring your child to school when
he/she needs to be excluded, your child will be turned away from class.
Please remember that our trip to the farm is on Friday, October 30. We meet
at the farm at 9:45. Directions were in your child's cubby on Monday. Please
remember that there is no regular class for K-4 (ONLY) on Friday, October
30. We depart for home after the trip. Thanks!!!!!!!!
The week of October 26-30 will be a busy one. On Thursday, October 29 we
will participate in Laps For Learning. Details about this will come home
from the school office. On Friday, October 30 we will go to The Land Of
Promise Farm.
The week of November 2-6 will also be a little different for K-4. On Monday,
Tuesday and possibly Wednesday of the week we will be taking our oral and
written samples. On Monday morning at 8:30 we will take the written sample.
The children will be given a paper with all of the letters and numerals we
have studied thus far. They will need to reproduce each, as in seat work.
We will explain the process in detail to the children. Please be sure your
child arrives on time (by 8:15) this day. For the oral portion of the
sample, your child will be called to the teachers desk where he or she will
look at all of the letters(aA,eE, iI, oO) and numerals(1 to 11) studied thus
far (not in order). Your child will be responsible for identifying each
letter and numeral. Your child will be responsible for producing the correct
sound for each letter also. Please remember that we are studying the short
sounds only at this point in the year. Your child will be responsible for
saying each Bible verse that we have covered so far (1 to 7). On Thursday
and Friday, November 5 and 6 SCHOOL IS CLOSED for teacher conference in PA.
We will resume U,12,and 13 during the week of 11/9-11/13.
Conference night is on Thursday, November 19 from 3:30 to 6:30. Traditionally
the results of the samples are given to you then. We have so many students
this year that Marge needs your help. We simply do not have enough time to
accomodate everyone in one evening for a conference. If you can possibly
schedule a conference before school, after school, or during nap (even on the
phone, then Marge will show you the sample results at another time), please
let Marge know.
