What is a book talk?
A book talk is where a student tells the class about a book they have read. There is a book talk worksheet to help them organize their thoughts and prepare for their oral presentations. Students must complete at least one book talk per marking period. They may and are strongly encouraged to use props in their oral presentation. Their presentation should only last 2 - 3 minutes. The story is to be read nightly and the student must read it aloud at least two nights. Parents may read the story to the student on the first night. Studies show that rereading familiar material helps in increasing fluency so this is a very important exercise. Encourage your child to read with expression. How is classwork graded?
Class work is graded with a star, plus, check plus, and check. A star means it was done correctly with 1 or 2 errors. A plus means it is well done with some mistakes, 3-5. a check plus means it was done ok, but there were several errors. A check means they did it, but it was incorrect.Back to Top

What does a red "X" in my child's assignment book mean?
Our discipline policy in third grade is "Three strikes you're out!" If you see a red X in your child's assignment book, they're suppose to tell you why they got the X. If they get 3 X's in a week, you will receive a phone call from me.Back to Top
