About Mr. Engler
I have wanted to be a teacher since I was a 7th grader at Burleigh Manor Middle School (I graduated from
Centennial High School
). I earned my B.S. degree from
Salisbury University
and my M.S. in Educational Administration from
McDaniel College
.
This is my ninth year of teaching at River Hill. This year I am teaching Chemistry 1 GT and Biology 1 Honors. My teaching interests are in the areas of Atomic Structure and Mathematical/Chemistry relationships. I am particularly interested in Quantum Chemistry, the origins of our Universe, and Nuclear Chemistry. In the past, I have also taught Introduction to Chemistry and Physics, Biology 1, and Algebra II.
I am a huge
baseball
fan. I coached baseball during my first seven years at River Hill. The first three years as the JV Assistant Coach, the next two as the Varsity Assistant Coach, and the next two as the JV Head Coach. This year, I will be serving as the Assistant Varsity Softball Coach.
Besides baseball, I have several hobbies outside of school. I enjoy spending time with my family and
friends
. I am also a HUGE music fan. I play a few instruments, some better than others. My favorite is guitar. My collection includes a
Rickenbacker 330 6-string
,
G&L ASAT
,
Epiphone Les Paul
, and
Epiphone Acoustic
.
My favorite band is, without a doubt,
The Beatles
. However, I have many other artists in my collection such as, CCR and John Fogerty, U2, Collective Soul, The Killers, Alice in Chains, Audioslave, REM, The Beach Boys, Pete Yorn, Fountains of Wayne, Live,
Elvis Presley
, Bob Dylan,
The Avett Brothers
, Oasis, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Rooney, Superdrag, Weezer,
Green Day
, Blink 182, Stone Temple Pilots,
Brad Paisley
, Nirvana,
Taylor Swift
, Dashboard Confessional, Third Eye Blind, and many more.
Some of my favorite television shows, both past and present, include, The Simpsons, Seinfeld, Lost, The Gilmore Girls, The Office, 30 Rock, Supernatural, Glee, American Idol, The King of Queens, Everybody Loves Raymond, Conan, Parenthood, The Walking Dead, Men of a Certain Age, Parks and Recreation, Ricky Gervais Show, Billy the Exterminator, and Chuck.
My wife,
Georgina
, is a school counselor. She works at Twin Ridge Elementary School in Frederick County. She was born in
England
and most of her family still lives there! We live in a small town just outside the city of Frederick, with our Yellow Labrador,
Lucy
.
If you are in one of my classes, I hope you enjoy it and have a very successful year. If you are the parent of a student in one of my classes, I hope your child enjoys my class and has a very successful year.
About Ms. Ose
Hi, my name is Ms. Ose. I am looking forward to interning this year with Mr. Engler in chemistry and biology. I am a recent graduate of Salisbury University where I majored in biology and minored in chemistry. While I was there, I enjoyed doing biochemical research on diabetes. Currently, I am a graduate student at the University of Maryland where I am working on my Masters in teaching Science Secondary Education. During the summer I coach my local swim team. I enjoy playing all sports. In high school my favorite sport was field hockey. I just started to play volleyball this summer. I am a huge Ravens, Capitals and Orioles fan (even during bad seasons). Outside of sports, I enjoy reading books, going to the beach and hanging out with my family and friends. I cannot wait to work with everyone this school year.
