Students need a title page, acknowledgement page, question page, research page, and bibliography page. This is all in the STEM Fair journal explained. The only difference is that 3rd graders just list 10 bulleted research facts instead of writing a full research paper. Our class conducted a "mock" science fair experiment entitled, "Does the type of soil affect the amount of water it can absorb?". The research facts we gathered were about soil itself. As long as the research is relevant to the topic of the question, it should be acceptable.
