What days should children wear their gym uniforms?
Children should wear gym uniforms on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Do students need to write in cursive?
Students must write their names in cursive. They will do all
spelling work in cursive by Thanksgiving. By Christmas, all work
will be done in cursive.
How often will the students have English quizzes or tests?
You will always know when an English quiz or review is going to
happen. Just look in your English workbook at the top of the
page. Whenever you see Extra Practice or Chapter Review, there
will be a quiz. We will review first as a group, and then,
you'll complete a review sheet. These sheets will be graded.
Expect them about once a week. Unit tests will always be
announced one week ahead of time. They will be written on the
homework board each day, and they will be posted on my website.
What themes will we learn about in Social Studies this year? How often will students be assessed on what they've learned?
The themes that we will focus on this year are: Communities and
Geography, Communities Change, Many Cultures/One Country,
Communities at Work, and Communities and Government. Students
will be assessed each day, both informally and formally.
Homework will be given in each unit. There will be a test given
at the end of each lesson. A study guide will be provided prior
to the test.
When will students be assessed in math?
Every morning, we will review what was taught the day before in
math class. Students will be given graded and nongraded quizzes
each day. At the end of each chapter, students will complete a
chapter test. Informal assessments will include: class
participation, classwork, and homework.
When will reading assessments be given?
Students will read a new story each week. Vocabulary words and
definitions will be sent home on Mondays. A comprehension and
phonics test will be given on Thursdays. There is no need to
study for this test. Through class participation and discussion,
children should be prepared to complete this assessment. On
Fridays, a vocabulary test will be given. Students will need to
be able to use to vocabulary words in the correct context, not
recite the definition. Please study the vocabulary words each
night.
