· Great resources to use include: Maryland Independent, Catholic Standard, Washington Times, Washington Post, Sports Illustrated/Kids, Newsweek, Time, Weekly Reader Magazine, etc.
· Please do not use Wikipedia, Ask.com, etc. Although they are useful for research, they are not appropriate sites for current events information.
Guidelines
1. An article/report is current if it reports on something that has happened within the past week to 10 days. When in doubt, ask Mrs. Roland.
2. Each week, complete a Current Events Weekly Summary Sheet on the assigned topic for the month. This means you will need to find an article/report each week on the topic. For example, if the topic is local issues, one week you might write about an article you read on the Hughesville bypass, the next week the article might be about test scores for Charles County/PG County schools; the following week might be about the new stadium being built. You are finding news about different aspects of the broader topic.
3. Be sure to cite your source, and if required, attach the article to your summary sheet.
4. Complete the entire sheet, (including the questions at the bottom for 8th grade). Your answers should be thoughtful and well supported.
5. Current Events are due to Mrs. Roland every Monday. If there is no school on a Monday for whatever reason, CE sheets are due on Tuesday or the next day we return to school.
6. If you are absent on a day that the assignment is due, you are responsible for turning in the CE on the day you return. Mark your paper as ABSENT.
