                        Theme 4 Person to Person
Selection 1: Mariah Keeps Cool
Talk About It: Talk with your child about planning a surprise party for 
someone. Does your child think this person would enjoy being surprised? If 
you have ever planned a surprise party for a family member, talk about how 
you did it. Like this story??? then read: Ernestine and Amanda by Sandra 
Belton or The Kid in the Red Jacket by Barbara Park 
then read: Rain River by David Wisniewski or Night of the Twisters by Ivy 
Ruckman

Selection 2:Mom's Best Friend
Bonus: As your child to think of a favorite animal or pet. Have him or her 
write a poem about this animal, explaining what makes it so specials. 
Encourage your child to add a drawing to go with the poem.  Like this 
story??? then read Like Jake and Me by Mavis Jukes or A Leter to Mrs. 
Roosevelt by C. Coco De Young

Selection 3: Yang and the Second and Her Secret Admirers
Talk About It: With your child talk about how you met a person who turned 
out to be important to you-a best friend, a spouse and so on.  Encourage 
your child to recall his or her experiences meeting someone for the first 
time.

Selection 4: Dear Mr. Henshaw
Talk About It: Talk about a time your when your child had to complete a task 
quickly in order to make a deadline. Discuss how it felt to try to focus on 
the work, knowing there was little time to finish it. Ask your child to 
describe how he or she felt afterward. Like this story??? Then read Strider 
by Beverly Cleary or Chevrolet Saturdays by Candy Dawson Boyd.
