Student Web Pages

Explanation: Second Grade Year (2007-08)

I am considering having my second graders begin making web pages. They are
showing me that they are indeed a tech savvy bunch. The first topic that
seems to be of popular appeal is....Pokemon. I have many Pokemon fans in my
class. We will be pondering how to make Pokemon understandable to old fogies
like me. If we can do that, we will then create a web page that explains the
Pokemon world to the uninitiated. Stay tuned for more.

The kids have written articles for the Pokemon web page. I will put those
articles online as soon as I can. So be patient. It is coming.

Student Pages- From both fourth graders and second graders:

Castles: Daniel C. is creating a few web pages about castles.

Donovon is telling about his trip to Disney World in December 2006.

Nicole and Jessica are now creating a web page on horses.

This is my own experiment with podcasting. I went to a Micca conference in
Baltimore on April 26,
2007. One of the things they talked about was the use of the podcast for
educational purposes. This is
my first experiment in that realm. It's not very profound, but hey, all long
journeys begin with a few
small steps.

The Pokemon Page is up and running. Although Mr. Cole is doing the online
creation, the children
are doing the writing. We meet every Wednesday during lunch. Any second
grader is allowed to join
the Pokemon Club. But if they join, they must contribute articles for the
site. Articles must be
written in paragraph form with a title and good topic sentence.
The articles must be in the student's own words. No plagarism is allowed.
If you are interested in participating in the Pokemon Club, just ask
Mr. Cole and join us on Wednesday.

The Stuffed Animal Project- We read the story The Velveteen Rabbit. We then
wrote stories based on a stuffed animal that comes to life. The kids came up
with some creative stuff. I am slowly putting their stories online via video.
You need to know the password to access it. Drop me a line if you need the
