The Measurement Project -April 14-16, 2009

This week (April 14-16) you will not have math homework from the book.
Instead you will have a writing project. Your mission is to write a paragraph
explaining to Mr. Cole how to make something. The explanation must have some
form of measurement in it. It can be length, volume, weight etc. But be
specific in your explanation. On Friday, bring the paragraph and materials
to show Mr. Cole how to make it. If you choose food (cooking) we cannot eat
what you make (health regulations). But you can definitely eat it for lunch.
So there are two parts to this assignment. You must have a written
paragraph. You must bring in materials and explain how you would make it
(whatever it is). Extra credit in this project could involve taking pictures
of how you made whatever you made. Pictures are not mandatory. They just add
to the project.
We probably won’t get through everyone on Friday. The presentations we
don’t finish on Friday, we will finish on Monday. Drop me an email if you have
any questions.

On Thursday, August 28 we began meeting with our math class.
I sent home the textbook we are using. The children can keep the
book at home. It would probably be good to put a cover on it as well.
They do not need to bring it back to school. We will be using it for homework.
It is a heavy book. It is too heavy for a second graders to be lugging around.

Also, if my math parents could send me their email I will make a math elist to
send out information. My email is the one attached to the mailbox on the
homepage. You can also write me at jackbean3@yahoo.com

The children seem like a wonderful group. I look forward to a very
mathematically exciting year together.
