Research Design & Experimentation Final Exam (4 Parts):
· Presentation
· Lab Notebook
· Written Report
· Science Fair Forms
PRESENTATION DATES: See next menu item
Presentation: Each “researcher” is required to present his/her experiment:
You have a maximum of 8 minutes for your presentation: 7 minutes for your discussion and 1 minute for immediate questions. There will be time for further questions at the end of the session. Your 7- minute time slot includes prep and set up of your visual. You will be stopped once you have reached the time limit and your grade will reflect incomplete presentation.
Make sure you also address each item on the "Scientific Presentation" checklist you have been using in class.
Scheduling the Presentations:
· Academic Year: The last day you can present is during your regularly scheduled exam period. Arrangements can be made to present during the week before and including exam review day.
· Summer: You will sign up for a designated presentation time. You may invite your parents, so consult with them for a mutually convenient schedule. There will be several time modules each day. Several students can reserve a presentation time slot within each module. You MUST remain for the entire module as an attentive audience for your colleagues. You may NOT use that time to prepare or set up for your presentation. Your grade will suffer if you leave before your session is completed. Even if it runs over the allotted time. This is not negotiable, so plan for it! The time slots are for inclusion as a roster only and do NOT indicate assigned times or sequence of presentation.
Guidelines for Effective Presentations: Although I gave you guidelines for effective presentations, there are additional resources available on this site and the Science Internship web site that might help you prepare your presentation. http://teacherweb.com/MD/WoottonHS/Adler-ScienceInternship/index.html
Please make sure you follow the guidelines for effective public speaking and visual presentations. This will be factored into your grade. Make sure someone has proofread your backboard and listened to your presentation.
Written Report : The written documentation of your experiment is also due at the time you present. Make sure you follow all checklist/scoring items. Please make sure someone proofreads your report. It should be in the same general format as the article you reviewed in the “Evaluating Published Research” assignment. I have posted an exemplar on the "course documents" page of this site. Make sure you also address each item on the "Written Report" checklist you have been using in class. There are several exemplar papers on this web site.
Lab Notebook : Your original documentation is also required. Make sure you also address each item on the "Lab Notebook" checklist you have been using in class.
Science Fair Forms: You must submit all the required forms to enter your project into the Montgomery County Science Fair. You will be given a package with the appropriate forms to be signed and ready to submit online.
