About The Teacher

This is my third year at LKMS and my 23rd year of teaching. I
have my bachelor's degree in special education, my master's degree in reading,
and a master's certificate in ESOL (teaching English
to speakers of other languages). I have taught middle school (6-8) reading
for the past eight years, here and at Murray Hill Middle school. Prior to
Murray Hill, I have worked in special education at the elementary level at
Clarksville Elementary, as well as various schools in P.G. County and
Baltimore City.

I am Lime Kiln Middle School's reading specialist, and work to meet the needs
of our student population.

I live north of the school, in Columbia, with my husband. My husband and I
have been married for 14 years since July. We love to go to movies (especially
campy horror flicks), redecorate the house, go for walks,
and have over our friends and family for BBQ's.

I don't have a cable connection anymore - I prefer to watch the television
shows I like from DVD's. My favorite programs are primarily HBO original shows
and animated series - The Simpsons, South Park, Futurama, and many others...

We also like to travel, though I have not been out of the United States yet,
nor did we vacation away this summer, instead we fixed up a bathroom and
bought a new refrigerator.

I love to read! I like adolescent fiction: realistic, historical, sci fi,
fantasy, graphic novels, horror and series novels. Some of my favorite
authors are Sharon Creech, Clive Barker, J.K. Rowling, and Edward Bloor. I
love non-fiction as well. In adult reading, I enjoy Neil Gaiman, Elmore
Leonard, Carl Hiassen, Joe R. Landsdale, and many others. This summer I read
another crop of new books to share with you!

I look forward to being of service to the school community.

Make Your Thinking Visible

This year, my goal is for you to actively read in our class and all of your
classes. You can improve your active reading by making your thinking visible.
Analyze what you think while you read and use our class to become more active
while you read.
