Welcome to English class! I'm excited about the start of another school year,
and I hope you are too!
This will be my sixth year at LKMS. Prior to coming here, I had been a fifth
grade teacher at Northfield Elementary School. Before that I had taught in
Connecticut, starting with Dance, then preschool, fourth, and fifth grades. I
received both my degrees, a Bachelor of Arts in Child Development, and a
Master of Arts in Teaching, at Connecticut College.
I have lived in Columbia for the past 17 years, but I grew up in the Bronx, in
New York City. I had also lived in Connecticut and Rhode Island for
several years. I have two sons, Jesse and Dylan, both of whom went to
Atholton High School and Towson University. Now they live in Brooklyn,
New York. Jesse is married to Virginia and they have a beautiful baby girl,
my granddaughter, Kaiya.
When I'm not teaching I love to exercise. I take Zumba classes, play tennis,
and have recently started yoga classes. I also love to read.
My mission is provide a safe, nurturing classroom environment in which students:
- explore and express new ideas through writing and discussion
- develop strong listening and speaking skills
- develop critical thinking skills
- develop a deeper understanding of themselves in relation to others and their
world through literature.
