Dear Lower School Families,
It is official: summer vacation has begun! The hallways of Lower School are
empty and considerably quieter this week. The K-4 classroom teachers,
Encore and Support Team members are participating (with their 5th grade
counterparts) in a week-long, 30-hour training in The Responsive Classroom.
Details on this exciting addition to our Lower School program will be
forthcoming throughout the summer months. Here’s a bit of Lower School
news:
It was wonderful to see so many Lower School families at our Closing
Ceremony on June 4. Most importantly, it was great to celebrate the many
accomplishments of the K-4 students, especially in respect to their service
to class, school, local, national and world communities!
SUMMER READING and MATH packets for returning students were distributed to
the families who were in attendance at the Closing Ceremony. All remaining
packets, including those for NEW families, have been mailed. If you have
not received your packet by Friday, June 20, please call the LS Office at
240-395-0671.
MISSING SUMMER INFO? Many of the grade level summer reading packets refer
to a reading log, book rating page or special assignment page. If you find
that page missing from your child’s packet, you can access it and print it
out from the McLean website. Go to www.mcleanschool.org. Proceed to LOWER
SCHOOL, then to “Summer Reading.” Math packet and practice information is
located under “Summer Math” and “McLean Math Websites.”
The McLean Summer Program begins on Monday, June 16. The classrooms will
fill up with lots of little people who will be involved in a summer of
learning and fun. It will be great to hear those little voices!
Enjoy the heat!
