| April 21 through April 27, 2008 is "Turn Off Your TV Week." This year, try
to turn off all SCREENS in your home for this one week. That includes
televisions, computers, hand-held games and any other electronic with a
visual component.
WHAT CAN YOU DO? Try some of the following:
Enjoy family story time. (Take turns reading pages or chapters.)
Play a board game or card game.
Go to the local library or a local bookstore.
Have a family field trip.
Listen to the radio.
Check out current events in the newspaper.
Play addition, subtraction or multiplication games with a deck of cards.
Write letters or cards to friends or relatives who live out of town.
Start a flower or herb garden.
Make a scrapbook of favorite family occasions.
Make a collage from pictures in catalogs and magazines.
Organize family photos into a photo album.
Cook a meal with family and/or friends.
Take a nature walk around the neighborhood.
Enjoy a leisurely bike ride.
Ice-skate, rollerskate or rollerblade.
Have a family "dance party" with everyone's favorites.
Have a yard clean-up day.
Enjoy "family tea and cookie" time together.
Practice dinner-table conversation.
Prepare a special dessert treat for the family.
Start a journal or diary of hopes and dreams.
Volunteer your services at a local hospital, shelter, or soup-kitchen.
Go to a museum.
`Got a piano or guitar? Have a family sing-a-long.
Take a Metro ride with no particular destination.
Tour Downtown Washington, DC or other area sights.
Create something spectacular with LEGO or blocks.
Visit the National Zoo or the Baltimore Zoo.
Dress up in pre-made or home-made costumes and have a costume party.
Learn about the native trees and plants in your neighborhood.
Create artwork or jewelry with each member of the family's input.
Attend a sports event.
Attend a play. (The Kennedy Center's Millenium Stage has nightly free
events.)
Experiment with learning a new language.
Have a scavenger hunt.
Play hide and seek.
Enjoy family "talent night" with each family member sharing a talent.
