WEEK FOUR: FEB. 13 - 16 (No School on Friday)  Article due on Monday if not turned in Friday, Feb. 10.
MON. Study for a quiz on criteria pollutants on Wednesday. The criteria power point has been uploaded to APES LINKS
AND
Read the Washington Post Article "Obama administration slows environmental rules as it weighs political cost".  Make 3 columns titled: issue, pro and against. List the issues and both sides. Write a short summary that illustrates your opinion on these issues.

WED. Study for a quiz on ozone equations.
 Complete reading chapter. Test Chapter 18 next Tuesday.

WEEK THREE: FEB. 6 - 10

TUES. Use the uploaded power points on Air and Climate to study for the test on chapter  17.

WED. Read 398 - 403. Define the bold-faced words. 

THURS. Read p. 412 from Air pollution control - p. 417 up to Current conditions and future prospects & answer the following questions:
1. Explain how particulates are removed from stacks.
2. Explain how sulfur can be removed. There are numerous ways to do this.
3. How is Nitrogen oxide controlled?
4. What does a modern car contain to limit air pollutants?
5. Contrast primary and secondary standards.

Article due either tomorrow or Monday.



WEEK TWO: JAN. 30 - FEB. 3
MON. Read p. 389 from "Winners and Losers" - end of the chapter.  Summarize the sections & read the "what do you think" about reasoned judgement & scientific uncertainty. 

MEET IN ROOM 136 ON WEDNESDAY 2/1

DUE FRI. Read p. 386  about El Nino/Southern Oscillations. Answer the following questions:
1. What occurs in the Pacific Ocean to trigger an El Nino?
2. How does El Nino affect us in the U.S.?
3. Are El Nino events becoming stronger because of climate change?

WEEK ONE MP3: JAN. 24 - 27   PERMISSION SLIPS & MONEY DUE BY FRIDAY!

TUES. Read p. 376 beginning with The Great Weather Engine through p. 378 up to Weather. Spend some time studying figure 17.4. Answer the following:
1. Explain why is the sky blue?
2. Define: albedo. Which surface has the highest albedo? Why?
3. What is the net albedo of the earth?
4. Latent energy is the amount of energy required to change a substance from one phase to another without changing the temperature of the substance. Explain when latent heat is absorbed & when it is released.

WED. Read p. 379 from Jet Streams through p. 382 up to Seasonal Winds. 
1. Define: cold front & warm front.
 2. Explain what causes intensification of convection in a cyclonic storm.
3. Explain what causes exceleration of violent updrafts in a tornado.
4. How is hail formed inside a supercell?

 Read about the evidence for climate change and summarize each section.  AND

Debunking Misconceptions in climate science:  You will be given one of the topics in class. If you were absent on 1/27 please choose one of the topics.
