Tuesday, May 29 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We're almost finished! We just have a few more days before summer break, so parents should encourage their children to stay focused and be responsible. Here's what's coming up:
Wednesday - Science and Math Exams (study hall in the afternoon)
Thursday - Social Studies and Language Arts Exams (regular classes in the afternoons)
Friday - make-up exams
Our 7th Grade BBQ is this Friday!!! Any late assignments or signed papers must be turned in by Thursday in order for students to be eligible to attend. It is the students' responsiblity to make sure that work is completed and turned in.
Next week is our Field Day Pool Party! Permission slips and money ($8) were due last Friday. Mrs. Fowler has to give the pool a number of students who are attending. If you still need to turn in a form or money, please do so ASAP. Once again, late work must be completed in advance in order for students to attend.
Tuesday, May 1 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NEWSEUM TRIP is tomorrow! Students must arrive at school between 7:30-7:45 and bring money for lunch. I sent a paper home on Monday that goes into more detail about the field trip.
Interims went home yesterday. Be sure to sign and return ASAP.
Friday, April 27 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DRAMA CLUB - I'm sure everyone knows that the play is tonight. After the play is over, we need ALL students to stay until the stage is put away. Parents are welcome to help as well. With everyone working, it gets done within minutes and ensures that Mr. Youstra is not stuck trying to put away the final pieces by himself. Thanks, and break a leg!
Monday, April 16 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The form for ordering summer math books is in today's parent envelope. Students currently in Mr. Youstra's class should order the Grade 7 review and students in Mrs. English's class should order the Pre-Algebra review.
Don't forget that this Wednesday is International Heritage Day! Students may bring in a special dessert or other treat to share with the class at lunch time.
The Drama Club has several rehearsals over the next two weeks leading up to the big performance.
The 7th Grade Pre-confirmation Retreat is this Saturday. Contact the Religious Education Office ASAP if you have any questions. They are not here on Fridays, so don't wait until the last minute!
Friday, March 30 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Did anyone take pictures during the Christmas performance or Breakfast with Santa? The Yearbook Committee needs to finish their work by next week, and they realized that they don't have any good Christmas pictures with 7th graders. Mr. Youstra usually takes them for us, but he was out sick the day of the performance. If you have any, please email them to me ASAP.
Thanks!

TERRA NOVA TESTING begins Monday morning. It is important for students to arrive at school on time with sharpened no. 2 pencils so that they can begin testing relaxed and ready to go. These tests do get sent to high schools, along with 7th grade final averages, 7th grade attendance/tardiness, teacher evaluations, HSPT scores, and 8th grade first semester averages. Students should take the test seriously, but they should not get stressed out over it. They will perform better on the test if they are not feeling anxious or pressured. This test is just one piece of information that high schools get.
Thank you to all the parents who volunteered to chaperone the field trip to the Newseum. I will send out official ADW chaperone forms soon. Please let me know if something comes up and you are unable to go. Since we had such great parent response, we hit our bus capacity and I had to put a few parents on a waiting list to chaperone.
Monday, March 19 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Seventh grade students should receive a letter in the mail from the Religious Education Office. This is about a mandatory retreat for all students who plan to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation next year in eighth grade. Please call the Religious Education Office if you have any questions about the retreat, Confirmation, or any other Sacraments.
Thursday, March 15 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tomorrow is a tag day for St. Patrick's Day eve.
The St. Patrick's Auction Prize Wheel will be open for $1 spins for students tomorrow after school. If parents want to park and come into the building at the end of the school day, Sister asks that you do not leave your car in the carpool lanes or in the lots where aftercare plays.
Newseum Field Trip forms and money are due tomorrow. By Wednesday, I already hit my maximum number of TEN chaperones! It is wonderful to have so much support from parents! Thanks!
Tomorrow is the last day of the third marking period. We only have one more quarter to go before this class becomes eighth graders! Please remind your child that high schools will request final averages from seventh grade, so it is important to keep working hard in the last quarter.
Tuesday, February 28 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, February 9 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please keep your calendar handy for this month. We have so much happening--a half day this Friday, Valentine's Day, Team & Club Photos, a four day weekend, Ash Wednesday Mass, etc.!!!
Students wishing to bring in Valentine's Day cards or treats should bring in enough for 22 students. If your child uses the class list in the directory to write names on the cards, remind them to add Michael who just joined us a few weeks ago. Students may not bring in Valentines for a select group of friends only. We don't want anyone to feel excluded, so bring them in for everyone or no one.
Students who have not completed late/missing homework will have to work on this during the party.
Interims will go home Tuesday, February 21. Remember that high schools will be receiving the end-of-year grades for 7th grade, so students should be working toward their best possible grades.
I have noticed that we have had some minor discipline issues pop up again --gum chewing, copying homework, fooling around during dismissal, and uniform violations. Parents should take a few minutes to talk to their children about respecting the school rules.
Thursday, January 5 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The quarter ends on Friday the 13th, which is a half day.
There is NO school on Monday the 16th for MLK Day.

Monday, Nov. 21 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ATTENDANCE CHANGES - Please pay special attention to the section on attendance in Sister Sharon's letter. Previously, we only had one designation for "Absence" on our report cards. The report card did not specify whether the absence was excused or unexcused, so we weren't very strict about making sure that parents sent in excuse notes. The Catholic School's Office has revised it's policy for attendance, and it will take effect beginning tomorrow. In order for an absence to be excused, parents
MUST call the office to inform inform us about a student's absence on a particular day AND
parents MUST also send a brief written note upon the student's return describing why their child did not attend school. Please read Sister's letter for more details about the new policy.
NO AFTERCARE THIS WEDNESDAY! - Remember to pick up your child at the 12:15 dismissal time for the beginning our our Thanksgiving Break. There will be no school on Thursday or Friday.
The newsletter also contains lot of other information including the revised date of the 7th grade Confirmation Retreat. Please note that the Religious Education Office is in charge of Sacramental preparation. They usually send out permission slips and other information in the mail. If you have any questions related to Confirmation or the retreat, please call their office and they would be happy to help you.
Friday, Oct. 21 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Below is the 7th Grade Report Card Conference Schedule. In 7th grade, both the student and parent must be present for the conference. If you are unable to attend at your scheduled time, please contact me as soon as possible to reschedule. I do have some open spots on both Thursday and Friday, or I can make other arrangements to meet with you the following week. Please make sure that your tuition payments are current since I will not be permitted to give out a report card or have a conference for a student with unpaid tuition.

Don't forget that there is no school tomorrow due to professional development.
Winter Uniforms begin Monday. See the Handbook for details.
Emergency Kits are now one month past due. Students who have not turned them in by Monday will be issued a missing homework slip. As a reminder, the Emergency Kit should contain the following supplies in a gallon-size ziploc bag:
A small flashlight with fresh batteries
Small canned fruit that can be easily opened
Plastic spoons
Napkins/wet naps
Small ziploc bag
Fruit packs
Ready to eat dry cereal
Sealed bag of Goldfish or crackers
Did you send back the report card conference date and time request? I will be setting up my schedule on Tuesday. If I do not receive your request form, I will select an available day and time for you and your child. If you have concerns about your child's performance in a specific class and would like to meet with another teacher, please send that teacher an email.
Seventh Grade is in charge of the bake sale next week!
Let me know if you have any questions.
Monday, Oct. 3 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Interims went home in the Parent Envelope today. Please sign all pages and return these to school. Mrs. Redmond, Mr. Youstra, and I sent them to ALL students. Other teachers may have only sent interims for low grades. Early in the day, Mrs. English was having some trouble printing her interims due to a computer problem, so I don't know if her interims were sent with the rest. I will check with her tomorrow to see if she was able to resolve the problem.
Tomorrow's all-school mass is at 1:15 in the church. Parents are always welcome!
As we get closer to Halloween, I expect that students will be looking for costumes. Please keep a few things in mind. We have a short amount of time and space to get ready before our parade and party. It is best to avoid costumes that require a lot of makeup or other preparations to get into. Avoid costumes that may be offense or inappropriate for a Pre-K to 8 audience. Students should not bring in messy items such as colored hair spray, nail polish, silly string, or bottles of fake blood that can easily spill. A little makeup is okay to bring in. Students can take care of hair and nails before coming to school. If you have any questions, please ask.
Monday, Sept. 26 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A few events coming up...
-Band starts tomorrow! Don't forget the instrument.
-Picture Day is Thursday. Did you send in your order form yet?
On another note, when was the last time you replaced the batteries in your home smoke detector? Today we had an impromtu fire drill because the fire department had to check out a problem with a faulty air conditioning unit. That always makes me think about checking the alarms in my own home.
We are just about halfway through the first quarter already. Interims reports will go home in a week. Parents should be asking their children to see corrected papers and tests on a regular basis so that nobody is caught off guard by an unexpected grade.
Thursday, September 8 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was wonderful to see everyone at Back to School Night. For those of you who could not be there, your child was given a folder with information to bring home to you. Please be sure to return the Family Life form to Miss Stinger. If you have any questions, please feel free to send an email.
Today I passed out Scholastic Book Order forms. There are two ways to order books. You may send back the order form with cash or a check (made out to Scholastic), or you may order online using a credit card. Orders are due by Friday morning. Parents should be aware that the order forms lists books that are for grade 7
and up. Some books have a notation that they contain mature content.
TO ORDER ONLINE:
- SIGN UP at www.scholastic.com/bookclubs. On the parent page, click the "Register" button in the "First Time Here?" section. Register for your own user name and password. When prompted, enter the one-time Class Activation Code GWZLQ. This unique code ensures that your order is sent to me.
- SELECT the books you'd like to order.
- SEND your order to me online by the due date and your child's books will be delivered directly to my classroom.
Friday, August 26, 2011 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
New Family Orientation is Monday, August 29th, from 9-11am. All students are welcome to drop by the classroom. You may bring your box of tissues, roll of paper towels, and package of loose-leaf paper so that you have less to carry on the first day of school.
Tuesday, June 14, 2011--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
